Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Minnesota. I'm a junior high school business manager and a youth volleyball coach, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 33 years and we have been blessed with six wonderful children and 4 beautiful grandchildren. I love my job as the business manager at a junior high school. I enjoy taking long walks in the park with my wife in the summertime (when I'm not speeding along the trails on my roller blades).

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in elementary school my favorite movie was "The Ten Commandments" by Cecil B. DeMille. I remember telling my mother that I thought it would be great if we had a man like Moses on the earth today. During my junior year in high school, two young missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) phoned my mother on a very cold day in January to invite her to listen to a message about Jesus Christ and living prophets and apostles. When the missionaries arrived at our home I looked into their faces and I felt a burning desire to be as committed to my faith as these young men, so that I would be willing to go out and share it as they were doing. As I read the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, and listened to the message of the missionaries, I received a witness that this Church is led by Jesus Christ through His living prophets and apostles today. So, I made the decision to be baptized into this Church, along with my parents and younger sister. Also, my desire was fulfilled as, when I turned nineteen, I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary for two years in Japan to share the message of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

How I live my faith

I have been teaching early morning religion classes to our youth for about 15 years. We meet every morning at 6 AM before school for about an hour to study the scriptures. The program is called Seminary and it is a four-year program for students in grades 9 through 12. I love my students and I know that I must live my faith as they will be watching my actions to make sure I am practicing what I am teaching. I also enjoy coaching youth sports. I believe in the life lessons that young people can learn through participating in wholesome recreational activities. However, I also believe in the importance of observing the commandment to honor the Lord Jesus Christ on the Sabbath Day. Therefore, I choose to abstain from participating in any sports activities on Sundays. Rather, I use that time to attend church worship services and Sunday School classes, along with enjoying a family tradition of Sunday spaghetti dinner at our home with my children and grandchildren.

Are Mormons Christians?

I received my faith that Jesus loves me from my mother when I was very young. I attended Sunday School and weekly worship services at the local Lutheran church with my family, where, eventually, I was confirmed a member of the congregation. I was contemplating entering the Lutheran Seminary as I considered my future, but I had some questions about life for which I could not find answers from my pastor. About that time two young missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) contacted my family with a message about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and His living prophets and apostles on the earth today. As I studied their teachings and read from the Bible and the Book of Mormon (Another Testament of Jesus Christ), I received a witness that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and found answers to my questions. As Mormons, "we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ...that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
