Hi I'm Tom

I am a Professor of Chemical Engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married with five children and four grandchildren. My research focus is combustion and energy. I study fuels like coal, biomass, petroleum coke, and oil shale. We want to provide clean, efficient, and low-cost energy. I also study the fundamentals of wildland fires. I enjoy the outdoors, especially in the mountains.

Why I am a Mormon

I have studied the Book of Mormon and prayed to God to know if it is true. I have felt the calm witness from God that this book is His word, along with the Bible. I have had numerous spiritual experiences to reaffirm this witness, and feel the Spirit of God every time I read the scriptures or listen to the living prophet of our day. I have seen people change their lives with Christ's help and receive amazing blessings.

How I live my faith

I visit two families in our ward every month to see how they are doing and to provide a spiritual message. I also direct the missionary efforts for our stake (about 4000 people). We love to help people understand more about the nature of God, the purpose of life, and how to communicate with God.
