Hi I'm Brett

I work in an operating room. I'm applying to medical school. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a typical 23 year-old who likes to enjoy life. I recently graduated from college as a molecular biology major and have since applied to medical school. I now keep busy working full-time alongside a doctor in an operating room treating chronic pain. Additionally, I do research in a molecular biology lab that studies gene expression. In my spare time I love to play and watch sports. My sport of preference is tennis, but I also enjoy participating in basketball, softball, frisbee, and volleyball. I'm an avid Cincinnati Reds fan who is patiently waiting for another playoff run.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon family by parents who taught me to live an honest life. And while my family provided a foundation of faith, I am Mormon because of the personal experiences I have had which have given me a knowledge and testimony of God and His love for us, His children. I came to know for myself the things that I had been taught since my childhood by careful study of the Book of Mormon, the New Testament, and other scriptures. And by prayer, I asked God if the things which I read were true, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, God answered my prayers. Because of this, I know things that I do. I do not have a great understanding of all things--or even many things--but there are now some things for which I am certain. I know that God lives. I know that He is our Heavenly Father and that we are His children. I know that He knows us personally and loves us individually. He knows our sorrows and heartaches, and He knows our joys. I know that greatest expression of His love for us was sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. I know that through His atoning sacrifice for us, we can live with our Father in Heaven eternally. I know God's plan for us is for us to be happy. I know that this happiness comes from following His commandments. I know that because God loves us, He has called a prophet to teach us how to return to live with Him again. I know that priesthood authority has been restored on the earth today and that by this priesthood power, families can be bound together for eternity. We can live with our loved ones after this life because of God's plan for us and because of the redemption and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These things I know because I studied and prayed and received an answer.

How I live my faith

I live each day with the goal to serve those around me. I recognize that all people are God's children and because I have been bounteously blessed, I have the privilege to help and serve others. My life's desire is to make someone's life better even if I can only do so in a small way. Whether it be being available for someone when they need a ride or simply being a listening friend when someone is having a difficult time, my only desire is to do what the Lord would do to help those around me. I recognize that I am limited in many aspects, but I have faith that out of small things great things can come to be.
