Hi I'm Kevin

I joined the Church three years ago and I just finished serving a Church mission in Nevada, Las Vegas.

About Me

I am currently a student in College. I am currently studying Art Education and Health Education. I am from Dallas, Texas and I met missionaries when I was 17. I was baptized a month later (two days after my eighteenth birthday). I love the gospel, family, friends, education, art, exercise, movies, and music!

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to missionaries and the Church through a high school friend. I went to church then about two weeks later I had a meeting with the missionaries. I listened to their message. It was so different than anything I had ever heard, prophets, Book of Mormon, where we come from and why we are here. It was so foreign to what I had been raised with but it felt so right and it was so logical. It made sense not only on that logical level but I just felt so right about it. I went home that night and asked God if He was really there and if it was right that I was meeting with the missionaries. I felt so right about it. I continued to meet with them. In out second lesson as Elder Lamb and Elder Haskin were teaching me I thought, "if this is true... I want to go on a mission". About the third time I met with them I was given a date to be baptized! I was so excited and I really began to change everything about my life. I had always wanted to change all the wrong things in my life, but up until that point I just had never had the will power to do it. I was then baptized two weeks later. I was on fire! The next 12 months changed my life and I prepared for a mission. On March the 17th 2008 I received a letter from Church Headquarters that informed me that I had been assigned to labor in the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission. I left for my mission on June 18th 2008. With the support from Heavenly Father, my family and friends I was able to go and serve with everything I had. I love the Church and I loved my mission. I have been taken to places I never even knew existed.

How I live my faith

I try to actively show my faith by not only attending church every Sunday but by sharing the gospel everyday. I try my hardest to read in the scriptures (The Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine & Covenants and the words of living Prophets). I then try to share something I learned that day with at least one person. I try my hardest to serve and to literally do what Jesus did. I try to befriend those i meet, and serve the community in small ways, like picking up trash, saying "hello" to all my neighbors and by helping people I see that need help. I know the Savior would do it for me, so I feel like he helps those around us through us. I try to be His hands and His voice.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Kevin
The Book of Mormon was inspired by Heavenly Father, as was the Bible. The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, was written down by ancient prophets who lived in America 2000 years ago. It was a compilation of the words of many inspired prophets and then the entire record was abridged by revelation by a prophet, historian named Mormon. When it's existence was threatened by wicked people it was buried in the ground about 400 A.D. Joseph Smith, then in the early 1800's was shown where the book was buried, he was instructed by heavenly messengers to take the record and translate the ancient, reformed egyptian writings. As Joseph was translating he was shown that the record had been abridged by Mormon (the prophet, historian). He saw that it was a record, a book formed by the hand of Mormon, and so that's how the record was named, The Book of Mormon, and it is another testament, as the old and new testaments of Jesus Christ.
