Hi I'm Emily

I'm studying to be a Speech Language Pathologist and am a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student in college studying communication disorders so I can be a Speech Language Pathologist someday. I recently switched my major from Music Education. I love music, I sing, play the viola, and many other instruments. I live in an apartment with five of my best friends. My other best friends are my siblings. We are a close family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because I know that it's God's church. I know because I asked Him. Living this gospel brings me so much joy! I feel like I have direction and I know exactly where I came from and where I'm going.

How I live my faith

I am on the compassionate service committee. We find ways to get the ward involved in service and we let people know when a certain person might need an extra smile. We are watching out for each other! We came up with a system called "My Sister's Keeper" that helps us to keep in touch with each other and helps us to know who needs help. I'm also a visiting teacher, I have been looking out for and praying for two girls who live in the apartment below me. I know the struggles they are going through right now and I try to be sensitive to their needs.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Emily
Young men are strongly encouraged to serve a mission when they are around 19 years old. I have never felt pressure as a woman to serve a mission although I know I do have the option of serving a full time mission. We consider it an honor to be able to be a servant of the Lord. I had a unique opportunity to do a service mission for the church when I was 20 years old. I was a performing missionary in Nauvoo, IL (a great historic site for the early church and for the United States western migration). It was a life changing experience during which I was blessed to give performances and tours of local historic sites all day every day for four months. I felt the spirit of God in that city where so many members of the early church sacrificed so much. I love to serve God. I love to spend my strength in His service! It was the best feeling in the world at the end of the day to be totally exhausted in the service of God. I would like to serve a full time mission for the church someday! Show more Show less
