Hi I'm Jess

I love owls, the South, a warm blueberry muffin, and dancing in the rain. I'm a sister, daughter, a missionary, and a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in Seattle, Washington. Right now I am serving a volunteer 18 month mission in the beautiful states of Alabama and Mississippi. I'm learning to fry food, speak with a southern accent, love thunder and lightening storms, and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to all the wonderful people I meet. I am a BYU student studying Human Development and Family Life. Cooking is one of my passions. I love my family! I am the oldest of nine children and my brothers and sisters mean the world to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know this church is Christ's restored church on the earth. I have seen how it has blessed my family. I know that eternal happiness and joy can be found by following the principles taught in the Book of Mormon. Everyone has hardships that they go through while living on this earth. I have certainly had my share, but I find the strength to endure through my faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement. I know this is how the Lord wants me to live my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be the person that the Lord wants me to be. I try to think less of myself and my wants and focus more on how I can serve others around me. I know that I can grow closer to God by reading His words that are found in both the Bible and Book of Mormon. I know that I can pray and communicate with Him. I know that I am His daughter and He wants to hear my thoughts and concerns. It is through the Holy Ghost and the scriptures that He can speak to me and provide peace and comfort in times of need. I have made the decision to give 18 months of my life to the Lord by serving a mission for His church so that He can use me as a way to help more of His children find happiness. When I keep the commandments of God I am living my faith. It is how I show my Father in Heaven the devotion I have for His gospel and teachings. I choose to dress modestly, watch my language, abstain from harmful substances, respect my parents, live a chaste life, attend church every Sunday, serve others, pay my tithing, read scriptures, and say my prayers. As I do so, the Lord is able to mold me into the person He wants me to be.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Jess
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we know that God speaks to His children through a living prophet. In the Bible and the Book of Mormon the prophets are the ones who teach the people God's words. So why not have a prophet today? We need God's guidance today just like the ancient people in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Today Thomas S. Monson is God's living prophet and if we listen to and heed his counsel we will be blessed. Show more Show less
