Hi I'm Emily

I'm a Mormon and my family is the most important thing to me.

About Me

I married my high school sweetheart, and we have a toddler, Joshua, and are expecting our second boy. I recently finished my degree, and I am working as a speech teacher for preschoolers. I love to dance, and learned how to swing dance when I was in high school. I also love music and holidays.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it helps me understand why I am trying to be better every day. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to know where I came from, and why I have trials at times in my life. It gives me hope as I try to do my best. Being a Mormon gives me understanding that my Heavenly Father knows me, and loves me despite my weaknesses.

How I live my faith

I try to read from the scriptures daily. I also try to be patient with my son, and with myself when I don't get everything on my to-do list. I try to remember that those around me are God's children, and that they are all trying to do their best, just like me. I try to teach my family to follow God's commandments. I take time to have meaningful prayer with my Father in Heaven.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

These terms describe how the Church is organized. The organization is based on geographic boundaries. A ward is a region that meets together as a congregation. Each ward has a Bishop and other leaders who also reside in that region. A stake is a group of neighboring wards and is led by a stake president and others who reside within the boundaries of those wards. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We believe he is a prophet, called of God. Joseph Smith dedicated his life to teaching others about Jesus Christ. We do not worship him, but we appreciate his example and revere his willingness to be an instrument in the Lord's hands. I only worship God, my eternal Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ. It is because of Jesus Christ that I can be worthy to be in my Father's presence again someday. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

YES! I believe that the Bible is the word of God, and that we learn of Jesus Christ and His ministry by studying it. The Bible is a record of ancient prophets, and of Christ's followers. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith is the first prophet of this dispensation, or the first modern day prophet. Joseph Smith was only a young man when he sought to know which church he should join. He spent some time trying to decide which church was nearest to what he read about in the Bible, and reflected on James 1:5, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. Because of his humility and sincere desire to find truth, Joseph was told in a vision that none of the churches contained all of God's truths. Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet, and the teachings were restored to the earth, that had been lost over the centuries. Because of Joseph Smith, and his willingness to be a witness of Christ, and a servant of the Lord, we have the Book of Mormon, the Priesthood, and a greater understanding of Christ's role as our Savior.
