Hi I'm Mike

I help people with addictions, I ride bicycles, I LOVE my family, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being a dad. I love my dear wife. I love cycling in the mountains where I live. I love watching and playing soccer. I served a mission for the LDS church in Italy and deeply love that country and my friends there.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this faith, but when I was relatively young I had an experience when I was 16 that changed my life forever, and left we with an anchor of testimony. From that experience I know that God lives and speaks to Prophets on the earth today. That experience remains to this day the most memorable of all the experiences of my life.

How I live my faith

I have found that most of the joy in my life comes when I live the basic principals of the gospel 100%. "All out" commitments are easier for me to keep, and I find that the Lord blesses me when I do. One of the things that I am most sure of is that God lives. And I find that I am so HAPPY when I live the way his son Jesus Christ did. In my opinion, the sign of a true christian is how they follow what Jesus called the is the first and great commandments (Matthew 22:37, 38) and that is to first love God, and then love our neighbor as ourselves. If I don't follow those first and great commandments, it doesn't matter what else I do. In fact, if I don't put Christlike love first, the Bible says I am a fake, that I am nothing. Probably my favorite scripture is 1st Corinthians 13:1 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." In my opinion, allowing anger to displace God's love in my heart because of religion, is the ultimate irony, and represents the Adversary's best work among religious people. Instead, if I remember this scripture and treat all with respect and love, I do not have heated discussions about religion. With Love first, any conversation with another person about things that matter leaves me edified and glad to have met another traveler searching for meaning.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Too often members of separate religious communities can "clump together". They end up helping their friends, because they know what's going on in their lives, and feel a strong desire to help them. Lately our congregation has been trying to be more involved in the community. For example we held a car wash at the church building and invited people from the surrounding neighborhoods to have their car washed and grab a snack. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and show them we care about being a part of their lives. Another great community event is our Halloween "Trunk or Treat". All are invited and we have a nice blend of members and other friends from other faiths. Show more Show less
