Hi I'm Matthew Nielsen

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family. I'm married, we have two daughters and we're expecting another soon! I play guitar and I'm slowly learning piano. I work full time for a publishing company in the Sacramento area.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ and I have learned for myself that it was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith after over 1800 years of an absence of priesthood authority. After personal study and focused prayer, I have a testimony that the complete gospel of Christ is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I help the members of my ward by assisting them one on one under the direction of our bishop with their personal finances. I am the Ward Financial Specialist. I enjoy helping families to work toward financial stability and independence. I also am a home teacher to two families. We have great spiritual experiences in learning together as we share experiences related to the gospel. As a home teacher, my assigned companion and I visit our two families at least once a month in their homes to discuss gospel topics and offer assistance wherever we can.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Matthew Nielsen
I work with people who know very little about my faith. Luckily, we're all very open about our beliefs and we ask questions frequently. This sometimes gives me opportunities to share more about what we call the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom outlines certain "do's and don'ts" regarding personal health. For instance, Mormons are asked not to drink coffee, tea, or alcohol. The one thing that all of these have in common is that they're addictive. Any addiction causes individuals to lose freedom. Our freedom to choose is given by God. Anything that limits that freedom, we are asked to avoid. The Word of Wisdom is a principle of health that I follow because I choose to, and I know that it has blessed my life and kept me from harm. Show more Show less
