Hi I'm Alan

I am an attorney who enjoys designing landscapes and building websites, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Seattle area before heading out to Brazil on a two-year mission for the Church. After Brazil, I moved to Indiana, where I met my beautiful wife and earned a degree in landscape architecture. I later earned a law degree, and now practice law in Indiana.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Mormon church, but there came a point in my teenage years where I had to make a decision about whether or not I would spend two years of my life as a missionary. I started reading the Book of Mormon to find out for myself whether or not it was true. I also started praying more and putting forth more effort to keep the commandments. I could feel a major difference in my life and knew that serving a mission was the right thing to do. Many years later, I still know that obedience to God's commandments brings blessings of peace and happiness, and that the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I try to pray and read scriptures daily. I try not to judge others, and to be kind to everyone. I try to monitor the media (TV shows, movies, music, etc.) that I view or listen to, so that I can stay close to my Heavenly Father. I ask Heavenly Father for help to be a good husband and father, and I try to respond accordingly when I receive answers to those prayers. I try to learn about Jesus and do what He would have me do.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

One major purpose of this life is for us to prepare to meet our Heavenly Father. We lived with Him before we were born. He spent time with us, taught us, loved us, and cared for us. He sent us here to Earth to gain a body and to test us to see if we would be obedient to His commandments without being in His presence. This requires faith, or belief in something we can not see, but which is true. We prepare to meet our Heavenly Father again by having faith to make good choices - serving others, obeying the commandments, following the example of Jesus Christ. If we do our part in this life, we can live with Heavenly Father again through the power of the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ, which is also called the atonement. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Every law or commandment from Heavenly Father to his children (us) is given to us because He loves us and wants us to be happy. The Law of Chastity is a very important law with many wonderful blessings promised to those who are obedient. Simply put, we choose to only have sexual relations within marriage. We know that Heavenly Father has given us the power to create life, and with that amazing power comes grand responsibilities. We honor our bodies, we honor our Heavenly Father, and we show respect to our spouse and unborn children when we obey the Law of Chastity. Ancient and modern-day prophets have taught us that each son or daughter of God is entitled to be born to a mother and father who are married and who honor their marriage commitments.
