Hi I'm Heather

I'm a dance educator in New York City public schools. I'm a lover of art and nature. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I came to New York University to complete my master's degree and ended up staying in the city long term. I'm a dance teacher, specializing in modern and creative dance. I have a great appreciation for theater, music, and visual art as well as hiking and camping. When possible, I love exploring this beautiful world we live in.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ because I know he is our Savior. I know that the Father is a real and true being as well, a loving and just God who hears our prayers. Life's circumstances can be humbling and I am often awakened by his unfathomable mercy towards us, his confused, and stumbling children. God has so mercifully forgiven, rescued, and blessed me that at times I have been overcome with gratitude. I feel it most when I realize that I have fallen short and that by following the example of Jesus Christ I can become better. I also know that the atonement of Jesus Christ is healing in all ways. Although answers have not always come in the ways expected, I know that my heartfelt prayers have been heard. Answers have often come through studying his word in the Book of Mormon. Jesus Christ is the answer. When we don't know what to do, how to respond, what to say, following the example of Jesus Christ is the answer.

How I live my faith

I try to live what Jesus taught. Of course I fall short, but I try to treat those around me as I think he would have, with sincerity and compassion. Jesus Christ taught us to love and serve each other. I try to follow his example.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Heather
This is an interesting question. Of course I am unavoidably biased but I have to say that I think Mormon women are generally incredible! The women I know spend the majority of their time unselfishly in the service of others. We all, male and female, have infinite worth in the eyes of God. Although the men and women in the Mormon church often have different roles, they are equally valued and needed. I genuinely feel honored and respected as a woman within my church. Show more Show less
