Hi I'm Matt Riggs

I'm an attorney in Mesa, Arizona with a wonderful wife and six children. I love sports and music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family is the most important part of my life. Next to spending time with my wife and children, I love playing basketball and exercising. I'm an attorney by profession. I became an attorney because I knew I wanted a large family and wanted the means to be able to support them. I graduated from Arizona State University with both a business and a law degree. For the last several years, I've practiced law in the areas of personal injury and wrongful death. I love coaching basketball. I coached my sons and one daughter in basketball consecutively for 15 years.

Why I am a Mormon

At the age of 17, I was challenged to read the Book of Mormon then pray to know if it is the word of God. Though I grew up in an LDS home and though I believed it was true, I was not SURE it was true. At the time, I was being recruited for college sports and had to decide whether to serve a mission or play college football on a scholarship. I needed to know for myself if the Book of Mormon was true. If true, I needed to proclaim it to the world. If not, I would take the scholarship. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it was true. For about three months, I followed a pattern of reading the Book of Mormon at night, then kneeling by my bedside to pray. Many times I fell asleep while reading or while praying. One unusual night I had no homework, no sporting event, no student council event and no friends to hang out with, so I decided to read and pray. This time I was more awke than previous times. As I picked up the Book of Mormon to read, a feeling came into my heart/mind telling me to pray about it at that moment, rather than waiting until I was finished reading. I fought the feeling thinking I would read at least one chapter before praying. The feeling came back stronger. As I slid off of my bed and onto my knees, immediately, the Holy Spirit entered into my whole being. I began to pray and told my Father in Heaven that I was feeling something inside and asked if He was telling me that the Book of Mormon is true. Great swelling feelings started to happen inside my body. It felt as though my spirit would burst the flesh of my body. It was very exciting. Since that time, I have felt that same feeling from the Holy Spirit over and over again confirming truth. Whenever I have followed these feelings, my life has taken a step in a direction that has provided many blessings for me and for my family. This same feeling confirmed to me that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I know He lives. I know He loves me. I owe Him all I am.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a Stake President in the Church. This means I preside over approximately 4,250 members of the LDS faith. I also serve as a home teacher where I bring a message to a family and make sure their needs are met on a monthly basis. Through serving others I serve the Lord, Jesus Christ. He is my Example and my Savior. I derive all that I am through Him. He has been by my side for many years. I could do nothing without Him.

What is being a Mormon like?

Matt Riggs
There is a difference between being a member of the Mormon Church and being a consecrated member of the Mormon Church. I hope I'm a consecrated member, however, I find that the more I learn, the more I realize I can be even more consecrated. What I also find is that the Lord provides incredible and inumerable blessings to me and my family as I live the principles of the gospel as taught by the LDS faith. Some would say it is tough to be a member (because the Lord requires a lot of sacrifice), however, I have never seen it as being tough. Rather, I find that the Lord provides for everything I need and for everything my family needs when I put Him first; He has thought of everything! It's awesome!!! I proclaim with others "How Great Thou Art!" Show more Show less
