Hi I'm Colette

I'm a teacher who loves music! My family brings joy to my heart. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in beautiful upstate New York. While a young adult, I was baptized in Denmark, changing my life in wonderful ways. I'm married to my best friend (really!) We've adopted our children, and have centered our lives on building a strong, caring familly. I love to travel! I enjoy the adventure of visiting a new place and trying to find my way around. I can write a poem in a moment, and also enjoy writing music, accompanying my songs on a twelve-string guitar. Teaching is my passion!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that respected God. From as early as I can remember, I felt a connection with Jesus Christ. It took me a few years to cultivate a seedling of faith and understanding of His amazing life. I knew that I wanted to embrace His teachings and follow His example! Along my youthful journey of faith, I met wonderful people from many churches with sincere love for the Savior. I, like them, loved the Bible, professed my faith, and strived to live it. While I was happy, it never felt complete. I wasn't sure why. The answer came while I was abroad for a year in Denmark. My search for spiritual peace intensified. I studied the Bible voraciously and prayed fervently to know what I needed to do to come closer to Jesus Christ and to more fully do His will. In answer to my pleading prayer, two missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints knocked on the door of my heart, and I listened. I felt the Spirit of God and the peace for which I'd been searching! I'd never imagined that the answer was in a specific church, but it was! The difference was not so much the people. There are great people with great faith everywhere. The reason why I'm a Mormon is because God works through His authority, His Priesthood; that Priesthood is found in the "Mormon" church. Through that Priesthood, my family has been blessed beyond measure. I am married to my husband for eternity! My children will not be lost to me! When I am ill, I receive Priesthood blessings of comfort and healing. These blessings come through the power of God's Priesthood on earth. I am also a Mormon because I've prayed about it and I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Standing side by side with the Bible (see Ezekiel 37:16,17), as far as it is translated correctly, the Book of Mormon has given my life spiritual direction, hope, and peace. I feel so close to God when I've read the Book of Mormon! Since the day of my baptism in that little font in Denmark, my life has been changed. While life is still challenging, I am so thankful for the peace that continues to pour into my soul through the blessings I receive as a member of this church!

How I live my faith

I try to do whatever the Lord wants me to do! I take to heart the words of Matthew 25:40. I serve Him when I serve others, whether they are members of my church or not. I serve others as the Holy Ghost guides me; there are moments when I feel His promptings to call someone, or send a note, or do something specific, as guided by the Spirit. I also serve by assignment within our church. As I age, I know I will continue to have opportunities to serve the Lord by serving my fellowman (see Book of Mormon, Mosiah 2:17.) I know I can never repay the Lord for His sacrifice and gifts to me, but I will strive to live my life in a way that will show Him my gratitude daily.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

We believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly. We read and study the King James Version of the Holy Bible, and our lives are blessed so much through these scriptures, as we learn about God's plan for His children and His tender mercies in our behalf. We also embrace other scripture that gives us direction and hope. I find that the Book of Mormon supports the Holy Bible. Both give my life direction! Both bring my heart peace! Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Jesus Christ is my Savior! I love Him! I embrace His teachings and try to center every day of my life in His gospel! The name of my church is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. I've sometimes had people tell me that we don't worship the same Jesus Christ as everyone else, and that confuses me. The Jesus Christ I worship is the Son of God, born in Bethlehem of Mary. He lived and taught along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. He taught His disciples and prepared His apostles to carry His work forward, to share the gospel with the world. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He bore all of our sins and suffering. All of them! How He loves us! He was tried unjustly and crucified. Buried in a borrowed tomb, He triumphed over death that we might live again! I have a testimony that He lives and He loves us! Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Absolutely not! My family has participated in church-led humanitarian service activities that benefit people all over the world. In our local church, I've helped stuff heart pillows to comfort children in distressing situations (fire, severe illness, etc.) My husband took vacation time off of work to go and help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In our neighborhood, we've really tried to be there to help our neighbors, when needed. We aren't perfect, but we try to serve God through serving our fellowmen. Show more Show less
