Hi I'm Jay

I'm from California. I teach political science for a living. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a professor of political science, and a father of two bold and amazing daughters. My family and I travel to Latin America routinely for work, and we enjoy spending time together.

Why I am a Mormon

My family has a long heritage of Mormon faith, and I am proud to belong to the same church as those who went before me. Our church teaches the Christian message and gives us opportunities to love and serve others. This helps me feel God's love.

How I live my faith

I try to reach out to others who need help, whether that means a dinner after a new baby is born, someone to talk to during a hard time, or help with a move or household tasks. Trying to help teach my children how to live good lives is a central part of how I live my faith.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

It's a diet and health code that Mormons accept as a commandment and a community norm. We don't smoke, drink alcohol or coffee, or use illegal drugs. We also try to keep our bodies healthy. We don't think that people who aren't Mormons are sinning when they do these things, but we think God wants us to try to live more healthily. Show more Show less

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Our church hasn't practiced polygamy for about a hundred years. Although some of my ancestors were polygamous, and I'm proud of them for doing what they thought was right in the face of social pressure, polygamy is not a part of my life or faith. Show more Show less
