Hi I'm Doug

I'm a husband and dad. I work as a computer support person and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Although I got a masters in Biomedical Engineering, I've been in computer support for my entire career. I work at a big university, and have been doing IT work for the past 30 years. I've enjoyed wildlife photography tremendously for the past 20 years, and use that same great equipment to take thousands of pictures of my family each year. Our family still takes vacations in wild places, and we enjoy searching for elusive creatures to shoot with our cameras! I'm a lucky man to have my best friend for my wife. I sometimes pause to wonder how I got to be so fortunate. She holds me up to be my best, understands my failures and follies, and is a tremendous mom for our children. As a dad, I try hard to help my kids to learn the value of work. Sometimes they are not very supportive of this goal, but often can be persuaded to participate in lots of projects. They also get to enjoy the great summer trips that we have a a family. When they were younger (6-9), we hiked up through the Teton Mountains, and on the 9-mile hike we saw black bear, moose, and a snake!

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ! I believe, as the prophet Amos says in the Old Testament that "the Lord God will do nothing, except he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets." And I believe that He loves His children and is active among us in these modern times. I believe in modern-day prophets. When I ask Heavenly Father, I receive His assurance through the Holy Ghost that President Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's prophet on the earth today.

How I live my faith

Every day of my life I try to be the very best that it is possible for me to be. Of course I fall short of my own expectations, but I have a hope that is based in the reality of the Plan of Salvation, which enables me to return to my Heavenly Father. My hope enables me to continue through thick and thin times. This hope - the positive outlook gained because of my testimony of the Savior's love - helps me live my life happily, and to enjoy the blessings and challenges that my family and I have. My favorite thing to do is to be with my family. My wife and I teach our children to make wise choices by discerning between good and error. We read from the scriptures and from the teachings of our modern Prophets. I talk with each of my children often and deeply about life, and I try to give them a perspective that can help them to live righteously and happily. Although our everyday lives are very busy and scattered, every Sunday or Monday evening we have a fun family activity that helps us to maintain our good relationships, and stay close with each other. In my job I have learned that it is very good to 'be of use' to those that I work with. The scriptures and the examples of others have helped me to see that to serve others - to 'be of use' - makes me feel good, and is what the Savior wants me to do.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Doug
Yes! Our love IS stronger than the grave. When we follow the teachings of our Savior, and are strengthened by our faith in His plan for us, we can be assured of a continuing of our family relationships in the hereafter. Show more Show less
