Hi I'm Van

I'm a Mormon. I was born in Idaho. I drive truck OTR. My wife and I spent 18 mo. in Congo on a humanitarian mission.

About Me

I am a Grandpa with 5 children,4 stepchildren, and 27 Grandchildren . I love my family and getting together with them. My wife and I served an 18 mo. humanitarian mission in D.R. Congo. We worked on clean water, vision, neo-natal resuscitation, wheelchairs, and refurbishing school projects while there. We are currently serving in the Immunization Initiative for the church and have been back to Congo and to Haiti twice with Measles and Rotovirus. We help in social mobilization. I enjoy reading and also listening to books while driving a big rig over the road. I read the Scriptures, history, mystery, science fiction/fantasy, and almost anything uplifting. I play the guitar and sing a little. Neil Diamond is one of my favorites.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because i truly believe that this is Jesus Christ's true restored church. I was born in the church but never really gained my own true testimony until I was 31 years old and read The Book of Mormon seriously and prayed to Heavenly Father asking Him if it were true. I definitely received my answer through the Holy Ghost. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's true church and I also know anyone with real intent can gain the same answer for himself. My belief is continually strengthened through following and living the precepts taught by Jesus Christ. I also have a testimony that Thomas S. Monson is God's living Prophet on the Earth today. Living the Gospel and understanding the meaning of life has brought peace and true happiness to me and my family.

How I live my faith

I enjoy teaching the adult gospel doctrine Sunday school class in our Ward. I attend all my church meetings every week and go to Salt Lake City when possible for Church General Conference. I strive daily to follow the Lord's commandments. I desire and attempt to be a good husband and treat my wife as my most precious friend and companion. I use no tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs. I try to eat healthy and take care of my health. I home teach and visit four widows, one couple, and a single young woman every month. I pay my tithing and offerings monthly. My wife and I served an 18 month mission for the church in DR Congo, Africa doing humanitarian work. We still work with the Humanitarian department assisting in social mobilization for Immunizations in developing countries. I try to be friendly and honest in all my dealings with all my fellow beings. But I do realize how far I have to go and know I am a long ways from where I need to be.
