Hi I'm Tom

I love my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently living in Manila, Philippines, here with my lovely wife on a two year assignment for my company. Having been raised on a small farm in Idaho I have always had a love for the soil and growing things. That is probably why we own two acres and a home just outside of Houston, Texas where we can enjoy fresh vegetables from the garden nearly year round (when we are there). My wife and I have 7 wonderful children and 12 beautiful grandchildren. I enjoy taking pictures - mostly of landscapes and sports. I have been involved with Boy Scouts for many years and love to hike the mountains. I also still enjoy playing a little basketball with friends and family. Living in the Philippines is a wonderful experience!

Why I am a Mormon

Raised as a Catholic in Idaho, when I was 18 I had to make a decision about whether I wanted God to be a bigger part of my life. That decision eventually led me to investigate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and be baptized. Now 40 years later I can honestly say it was the best decision I have made in my life. The two biggest reasons I am a Mormon today are: First, the understanding I have gained that Jesus Christ is my Savior and how the power of his infinite atonement changes me to become a better husband and father. Second, the personal witness I have of living prophets and apostles on the earth today that help me have joy in my life despite turmoil, difficulties and disappointments. I know that God lives and that he speaks not only to prophets and apostles, but that the Holy Ghost is real and that he help me every day of my life.

How I live my faith

I start and every day with a prayer, kneeling by my bedside, thanking my Heavenly Father for my blessings and asking for help on things that concern me. I study the scriptures everyday to learn how I can be more like my Savior. As a hometeacher in the church, I visit several families each month to make sure their needs are being met and to help them in any way I can. I have had the privilege of working with the youth of our church for many years and am impressed with their maturity, capability and spiritual strength. I know that as I live my faith, by being obedient to the commandments, serving others and improving my own life through the atonement of Jesus Christ, I can continue to find happiness in peace.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

We can have ideas and thoughts that come to us, when followed, will either help someone else, or will help ourselves. Learning to recognize these promptings and act upon them have resulted in some of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Show more Show less
