Hi I'm Shaylin

I'm a Geographer, Adventurer, and Mom. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Geography Major and a Mother of 2 wonderful girls. I am an adventurer, foodie, and world traveler-or at least I'm trying to be. I lived in Brazil for a year and a half and speak fluent Portuguese. I still plan to bungee jump, explore my roots in Ireland and England, and see the Holy Land of Jerusalem. I absolutely love my husband and children. I also like to oil paint and sketch and I grew up with a passion for sports.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me about the Savior, Jesus Christ since I was little and they taught me how to pray to God, my Father in Heaven. I found out for myself that God still talks to prophets through reading the scriptures - the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I read and prayed a lot until I decided for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was definitely the only church on earth that taught all of God's truths, in their purest forms. I continue to be a Mormon because I know I can be happy in life only with heavenly help and doing what I know is right.

How I live my faith

I try my hardest to live what I believe; Christ is my ultimate example. I work with the youth in my area in trying to help them develop a relationship with their Savior. I help put together activities, sports, games, and service opportunities for them and I participate with them. I am always willing to bake or take a meal to anyone in need of help. I do my best to be there for those who need a friend. I try to live the way my Savior would like me to.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Definitely Not. Joseph Smith was only a tool, like Moses or Noah. He was called as a prophet to bring back lost truths after Christ and the original twelve apostles were killed. There were so many years without the absolute truth on the earth so when the time was right, God called a prophet once again, being Joseph Smith. There has been a prophet on earth ever since. As Mormons, we love Joseph Smith but we do not worship him like we do God and Jesus Christ. Christ is the one and only Savior of the world and it is Christ who we worship with all our heart and strength. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes, because I have read that exact excerpt in the Book of Mormon and I asked God if it was true or not. It took a while but I slowly came to understand that of course it is true. God loves all his children equally, not just those Christ appeared to in Jerusalem. Jesus could only appear to one group of people physically, but as soon as he was resurrected, God could send him to the people living in North America at the time. God wants us all to come to Him and to get to know his Son, Jesus Christ. He was crucified and resurrected for all of us because he loves us. Show more Show less
