Hi I'm Alan

I'm a Mormon. My name is Alan Aspey, I am a fit and active 70 year old who loves my God, my family and my life.

About Me

I am a husband, dad and grandad. I love my family and love to spend time with our four young grandsons. I love walking, keeping fit and enjoying the beautiful countryside with our faithful old dog Barney. I played rugby - union and league for thirty three years and still love to watch both games. I have researched my family history and have discovered that most of my ancestors lived in Lancashire going back for centuries. This has given me a wonderful sense of belonging to the place where I live. I am a proper Lancashire lad.

Why I am a Mormon

I was never very interested in religion until I had an experience which caused me to reconsider what life was all about. I didn't do anything about this for about three years until two smartly dressed young men knocked on our door and told me who they were. I listened to what they said and then politely told them I was not really interested. As I went back inside I thought "Alan you should have listened to more of what those young men had to say. They have the answers to the things you have been wondering about for the last three years." About five weeks later two other smartly dressed young men came to me in our front garden where I was fixing one of our daughter's bikes. As soon as they started speaking to me I had a profound feeling that they were telling me some very important truths. I agreed to them coming to teach me more and, as they say, the rest is history. This happened twenty seven years ago. My life since then has been incredibly blessed. I feel am a better husband, father, grandfather and friend than I could ever have been without the gospel in my life. I went back to study and dumb old me who failed all his O levels gained a Masters degree at the age of fifty three. I would not swap places with any man in the world. I feel greatly blessed. I am filled with optimism and hope for the future. I know my Heavenly Father and my Saviour Jesus Christ love me and want the very best for me. All I have to do is to do my very best to be faithful and Christlike. I know they feel the same about you for you are children of God just like me.

How I live my faith

One of my favourite scriptures says this - "Wherefore you must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men" (Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi chapter 32 verse 20) I try to do what this scripture says by being cheerful, friendly and helpful and determined to show that my love of God and my fellow human beings is what motivates me each day. I try each day to be a better person than I was the day before. I try to be a more Christian Christian by helping those in need, by being a better husband, dad and grandad, by being more caring towards everyone.
