Donovan: Swimmer, Convert, Single Parent Family, Gamer, Mormon.

Hi I'm Donovan

About Me

I come from a single parent family. My mother has gone through two divorces. I moved around a lot as a kid. I love reading, swimming, water polo, playing video games, acting, singing, and spending time with people. Helping people is the joy of my life. I try to be the best person I can be everyday. I attended college to be a high school English Teacher, or a Lawyer. I love Italian food, especially alfredo. I am currently serving a full-time mission in Las Vegas, Nevada teaching people the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I spent my childhood looking for the right church. I gave up this search shortly after turning 15 because I didn't believe the true church was around any longer, if it ever existed. Around this time I started turning to activities that were wrong. I was suffering from major depression and most of what I was doing, I used as an escape. When I was 17, two missionaries came to my door. They told me they were missionaries and had a message for me. I told them I wasn't interested and tried to close the door, but one of them just kept talking. Being a polite, I tried to tell them again I wasn't interested, but they just wouldn't shut up. So I tried a third time. After my third attempt they brought out the Book of Mormon. Something changed in me. I wanted to read that Book. I had heard of Mormons before, but had never paid too much attention, because they seemed to me like a cult. I told them I would allow them to come back to my house if they would let me borrow their Book. They were so pleased they gave it to me. I started to take the lessons. The first lesson I just politely listened, but the second lesson I couldn't contain my questions any more. I asked them every single question that had made me feel that all other christian churches were false. They answered every single one of my questions with strength and conviction. As they were answering my questions I felt a growing sense of peace. I knew that I had finally found the truth. I know that this is the true church of Christ and Heavenly Father and I know that it is the only true church on the Earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that there is a prophet on the Earth today. I know that the Book of Mormon contains the fullness of Christ's everlasting Gospel, especially when read alongside the Bible and I know that it can bless your life as it blessed mine. And most important, I now know that my Heavenly Father loves me, which is the greatest of all the blessings which the Gospel has given me.

Personal Stories

Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.

Before my mission I didn't really have much knowledge about Joseph Smith. I had received a witness from God through the Holy Ghost that he was indeed a prophet, but that was all I really knew. Since coming on my mission I have come to a better understanding of who Joseph Smith was as a man, as well of as a prophet. Joseph Smith was not a perfect man and made a few mistakes. Several of his chastening from God can be found in the Doctrine and Covenants. However, he did his best to follow what Our Heavenly Father wanted him to do and because he was humble enough to be molded by God, he became one of the greatest prophets in history. He was a man who liked humor and loved his family very dearly. He would do anything for them that was in line with God's will. He suffered many trials and hardships, all stemming from the persecution that came because God called him to be a prophet. Looking at it from a logical stand point, I'm not sure how anyone could dispute that he wasn't just making this up. For if he were making up that he was a prophet, why would he suffer through all the persecution that ultimately led to his martyrdom? Why would he let himself go through with everything only to stand before the judgement bar of God to be labeled as a blasphemer? Any logical person would realize that he would not do that. He sacrificed everything for our Heavenly Father and I know that he will get his reward in the world to come. Outside of logic, anyone can get a testimony that Joseph Smith was a prophet and truly restored God's Church again on the earth. All it takes is a humble heart and a willingness to listen and act on the answer God gives you. We invite the world to pray and ask God if what we claim is true. I know that if you do this, you will receive an answer, for that is how I received mine. I can say for sure that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and he did restore the true church of Jesus Christ. I know that with every fiber of my being and I will never deny it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example to all those around me. I apply the principles that I have learned from the life of Jesus Christ to my own life. These principles help me to become a better person each day. I love my Heavenly Father, I love the people around me, and I also love myself. When I was at school I helped people do geneology and taught classes about it. Now I am serving a mission for our Savior and Redeemer. I am doing this because this Gospel has brought many, many blessings into my life, that I would like to extend into the lives of all those around me. I also live my faith by applying the Atonement into myself everyday. I struggle, I make mistakes, but everyday I strive to be the perfect person that Christ has commanded us to be and I know that I will be able to one day because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
