Hi I'm Melissa

I grew up in Poway (San Diego) California, I love gymnastics, soccer, and anything involving food. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to be around small groups of people and have good conversations. I love the beach! I served a mission in Londrina, Brazil from July 2008-January 2010. I am attending a university studying Latin American Studies. I am currently working at the Missionary Training Center to help prepare young men and women to serve missions in Brazil, speaking Portuguese. I love to be around people with good values and who can make me smile!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, so the becoming a member part was easy for me. What was more difficult for me was deciding on whether or not I believed what I was taught. I have a few siblings who do not attend church anymore so I needed to decide for myself at a young age if I truly believed if this church is true or not. Through prayer and scripture study I came to realize that it really is true. I cannot express the feelings that I had, but I can say without a doubt that I know this is the only true on the face of the earth because we have a true living prophet on the earth today who leads and guides us. Joseph Smith restored the Church of Jesus Christ so that we can have all of the promised blessings God has given to His children. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God (just like the Bible) and that when we study it prayerfully we can receive our own personal revelation and guidance in our lives. I know that our Savior lives and that He loves us. I know all of this without a doubt!

How I live my faith

I am currently working at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT where I am able to help prepare missionaries go into the field and teach others how to come unto Christ. I am currently in charge of thinking of service activities for people in my ward to get involved in and to serve one another.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

It is a commandment of God for all young men to serve missions when they turn 19, but that does not mean that they do not have their free agency to choose to go or not. Just like how we have our own free agency to live God's commandments, young men have their free agency to choose to serve a mission. For the young women they can choose to serve a mission when they turn 21, and it is not a commandment for them. Show more Show less
