Hi I'm Don

I read comic books. I love sci-fi movies. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a husband, father, and son. I joined the church in 2003 I am a Database Administrator and Comic Book Shop owner I read comics and love sci-fi and fantasy. I hold a Masters in Fine Arts in Acting/Directng I am an Eagle Scout

Why I am a Mormon

Since I was young, I have had very set ideas on what religion is supposed to be to myself. Until I started learning about Mormonism, I did not find any other church that "made sense" to me. As I read the Book Of Mormon, what I thought to be true was validated in it's pages. It was more like I was rememerbing than learning.

How I live my faith

I live my faith thru my family and callings. I try to be the best husband and father I can be. I find I am at my best what I have aligned myself with the teachings of the saviour and with the lessons from the scriptures. My calling is teaching the Primary Class of 10-11 year old boys, as well as being teh 11 year old Scout Leader. The Boy Scouing movement has always been important to me, and more so now as I see how it combines with the Young Men's programs to create righteuos men and leaders.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Don
The word of wisdom is a passage from one of the texts in the Scriptures called Docterine and Coevnants. The Prophet Jospeh Smith received revealtion from God regarding the health of our bodies. Our bodies are gifts from God, and we need to keep them functioning properly. The word of wisdom specifcally address three issues that would harm our health. Smoking of tobacco, drinking alcohol, and drinking hot beverages (specifically, coffee and tea). The Cliff's notes version is this. The Lord gave us free agency to make choices based on what we knew. Anythign that takes away our ability to make those choices freely, or simply comprimises our ability to doshoudl should be avoided. Coffee, tea, smoking, and alcohol are all addictive substances that alter how we behave, act and react to the world around us. We are asked to avoid these, as their addictive nature can overwhelm us and hinder our agency Show more Show less
