Hi I'm Tom Harris

I'm from California, live in Utah, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the father of 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. They are all out of the house now and doing well. Seven of the eight are married, all married in a temple of the church. I grew up in southern California, always active in church participation. I went on a mission for the church to Brazil and love that country and its people, and we recently received a call to serve again in Brazil, Cuiaba. I graduated from BYU with and undergraduate degree in Economics and an MBA after that. Hobbies include tennis, model rocketry, chess, camping and other outdoor activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon initially because my parents raised me that way. Then I became converted in my own heart as a young man, more converted as I served the Savior on a mission, more converted as I served in subsequent callings in the church. I've observed how much God loves each of us and how desirous he is to bless us when we do his will. I'm a Mormon because the church teaches us what His will is, because the Church is lead by apostles and prophets, and because I believe that Christ's true gospel of salvation is encompased in the teaching of the Church. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints means everything to me and has helped me to have a joyous and prosperous life on this earth - even in the face of the trials the beset all of us. I love the Savior and I love his Church.

How I live my faith

I have worked quite a bit with the young men of the Church in the Boy Scouting program. Each of my four boys is an Eagle Scout and proud to be recognized as such. I also visit several families in the ward to make sure their needs are being taken care of. And I try to participate in all the Sunday meetings and other activities in our area.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Tom Harris
Family is the key that links us to each other in this life and in the life to come. We learn from our families and we help them to learn also. The family gives us our greatest joy as we follow the path that God desires. Unfortunately, it can cause the greatest pain if we don't follow that path, or if family members stray from righteousness.
