Hi I'm Jeff Jones

I'm a husband and father of 3, an IU-trained dentist, and a bicycling junkie. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I moved to the midwest when I was 14, and soon after joined the ranks of skateboarder and teenage punk. After high school I served a two year mission for my church, which was my first opportunity to own a suit, wear a real pair of dress shoes and maintain a clean haircut for a lengthy amount of time. After returning home from Lima, Peru, I went to college and became interested in science. Organic chemistry was one of my favorite classes. After 8 years of schooling I graduated from dental school and entered the work force. I have now been married for 9 years to my amazing wife and have three daughters. I work as a partner in a family dental practice with some of the kindest, hardest working and most influential people I know. I love my job. Outside of work I try to balance my life between hanging out with the family, some kind of training for an upcoming race, service with my church and in the community.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it's true. God works in mysterious ways. As a teenager graduating from high school I was on a self destructive path with no real outlook on life. However, at a pivotal moment I was unexpectedly and immediately changed forever. At the time, questions about what to do with my life had been surfacing in my mind for weeks. Then, on a rare visit to church one Sunday, a teacher had felt an overwhelming inspiration to teach on a particular subject stating that she felt it would serve to help someone listening. As she taught, I felt the Spirit of God so forcefully talking to me and answering my questions and providing guidance that I knew it was true. It was such a strong communication from God to me that the course of my life was immediately changed. Bad habits were dropped, lifestyle changed, and a new sense of happiness came into my life that I hadn't known before. I'm a Mormon because God answers prayers. As I learned to live a life according to gospel teachings I have found true happiness. If you are questioning what's true, what to believe or who to trust, I would invite you to do what I have done; find somewhere quiet, kneel down, and ask God to help answer your questions. It's that easy. If you sincerely want to know and are willing to follow the answer you get, God will answer your prayers just like He has mine.

How I live my faith

Although I'm not perfect I try to be an example of Christ as often as possible. At home, I try to do things we've been asked to do; pray, study the scriptures, etc. At work, I'm the only Mormon. I dont preach to my coworkers, but I hope they see the example I try to set. I try to be honest, fair, hard working, and have a good time. I try to serve like Christ by donating my time and services to help people in need within our community. At church, everyone participates in different roles to make the organization work. For years I have worked with the youth, from teaching them on Sundays to serving as a scout master and helping the boy scouts earn merit badges, go on campouts, hikes, etc. Currently I work to help the bishop, our local leader.
