Hi I'm Joleena

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Canada.

About Me

I got married in May 2009 to my wonderful Man. We now have a daughter and a son. I am a Piano Teacher and love teaching little children. I like to make slideshows and movies and edit photos with our new computer program we bought. I like to hike, spend time outdoors, and dance.

Why I am a Mormon

I was taught about the Principles of the Gospel by loving Parents. It wasn't until I moved out on my own that I started to question those principles. I asked many questions and wondered how people knew that Jesus Christ was their Savior. I finally confessed to my Mom what I had been feeling lately, and she suggested that her and my sister teach me the lessons that Full-Time Missionaries teach from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They encouraged me to pray and ask God myself if He really existed. One day as a I drove away I asked aloud, "Father, are you there?" Within seconds, I felt an outpouring feeling of love and I cried like a little child. I knew then, that I had a Father in Heaven who was listening. I knew I could ask anything and learn of the Truth myself because I allowed the windows of Heaven to open as the result of my faith. I came to know that Jesus was my Redeemer and that God restored the Fulness of His Gospel to the Earth once again. I will always remember that moment when I KNEW Heavenly Father heard me. I love the Gospel. I have tested the principles myself and every time I strive to live them I am so HAPPY!!! What more could you ask for? Isn't Happiness what we are all searching for?

How I live my faith

Right now I help the Missionaries in the Church by fellowshipping those who are learning about the Church or who have recently been Baptized. I love getting to know these wonderful people and would love to meet YOU at our church building! There are many things that go on at the church that you may be interested in... Sunday Service for the whole family, classes for toddlers, children, youth, adults, women-only, men-only, and for those who are new to all this! There are Youth Groups that meet weekly, Seminary and Institute classes for the Youth and college-aged to study the Scriptures. There are woman groups that meet at the church to learn about different topics such as Food, Finances, Emergency-Preparedness, Fitness etc. I personally love to attend these Monthly gatherings where I can ask questions and learn new things. God wants us to learn about the things around us and make use of the resources He has given us.

Are Mormons Christians?

Joleena
People ask this question a lot, and I would like to clarify any misconceptions that you would have heard. YES we are Christians.. meaning we believe in Christ. If you look closely at the official name of the Church which is inscribed on every Church building, it says The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. Jesus Christ IS actually bolded for this purpose of Clarification. If we DID NOT call ourselves after His name, nor teach about Him in our meetings and classes, nor talk about Him in our daily lives, nor pray to the Father in His Name, nor if we strove to live like Him, THEN you could question whether we were Christians or not. But since Christ's name is in the name of our Church, and we talk about Him in our meetings and classes, we pray to the Father in His name, we talk about Him at home and to those around us, and we strive to live like He did... THEN wouldn't you suspect that we are Christians? Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Joleena
Because it stems from the Book we believe in to be Scripture called "THE BOOK OF MORMON" as many of you have heard about. It is a testament of Jesus Christ and was compiled by a man named Mormon who lived around 400 AD, in what is now North America. He put a lot of work into this book which contained a History of his Ancestors who travelled from Jerusalem to the Americas around 600 BC. Their people had Prophets who taught them of Jesus Christ, so Mormon, a Christian as well, included their words in his book. The only way you will come to know that this Book is another Testament of Jesus Christ, is if you read it yourself and truly ask God to know of its Truthfulness. We also believe the Bible to be true as far as it has been translated correctly as over time it has been translated in many different ways. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Joleena
We celebrate most Holidays like Christmas and Easter. Each family unit has their own traditions and Church leaders encourage us to celebrate these Holidays with our Families to create new and happy memories. 'Pagan' holidays such as Halloween are celebrated according to Personal Preference. Show more Show less
