Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a college student studying Exercise Science. I love playing baseball, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.

About Me

I'm 21 years old I enjoy doing basically anything out doors. I love going hiking, some of my favorite places to go are in Southern Utah in the National Parks like: Zions, Bryce, The Grand Canyon, Arches, Lake Powell. I love being able to work hard and in the end have a beautiful view of the land scape. I also have spent much of time playing baseball while growing up and I on the High School team, I played second base and had a lot of fun turning double plays. I'm currently going to college and having fun with that, I think I want to go into Occupational Therapy. I work in a call center for a company who sells essential oils. I spend some great time with my friends, we love playing catch phrase and other board games, and watching a good movie. I love the winter because I can go to the mountains ski and feel that adrenalin rush. I have in the past couple of years become a fan of reading. I love reading books about history and real people, I can't handle the fiction stuff.

Why I am a Mormon

I think it is a very important question to ask ourselves why we are the faith we are. I was raised Mormon by two wonderful parents who where also raised Mormon, so that was the beginnings. But as I have grown older and have had trials of my faith, I have searched it out for myself. I have asked the tough questions, many of which can be found on this site. As I have searched, pondered, and prayed about the Doctrines, principles and organization of the church. God has heard my prayers and answered and I know Spirit bearing witness that it is the Church of Jesus Christ. People often quote the scriptures saying, "God is the same yesterday, today and forever." I have seen that the same doctrines, principles that were important when Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Christ are still important today. So I don't need to worry about if the things I believe in are still going to be true later on down the road. I have had some hard trials in my life for me to face, where I thought I would never be to recover or move on. I have felt the feelings of guilt, shame, stress, and uncertainty in my life. And it was only because of the love and mercy of God that I was over come and pull out of the hole in my life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has taught me lessons and asks me to be and do certain things in my life. Such things like pray, love, serve, laugh, repent, listen etc. Which things only draw me closer to him and that to me is a great way to tell if it is true. These are some of my thoughts of why I am a Mormon. .

How I live my faith

Going to college and living in the social scene can sometimes present a situation that is not clean or very good to be in. I try to pay attention to where the party is at and the activities that are going on to see if it is a place that I want to be or feel like I should be. If I find a good party with good activities and some great music and friends I have a blast. I keep my life grounded and on track for my goals by daily reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon to continue learning about the life of Christ and his teachings. I also pray daily to talk with God and learn what things he wants me to be doing. In the singles congregation that I attend we have lots of activities and I try to attend as often as my schedule allows me to. I try to just not think about religious topic on Sunday but though out the week as well. Reading and Praying helps with this and talking to others about things as well has strengthened my faith.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Spencer
Because we believe that they can be sealed together and remain and stay a family unit even after death. It not "til death do you part" but "for all time and eternity" Since eternity is a very long time we place a lot of emphasis on protecting the family from the temptations of Satan and the sins of the world. Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Spencer
This is one important question to ask. I believe that the answer is yes. Let me just mention one quick point that helps me understand. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is not divided in his ways. He loves us today just as much as he loved the people who we read about in the Bible. And we need him just as much as they did back then as well. Also, the message of the Christ is very important to our eternal salvation, so everyone needs to hear about it. So he taught the people in Jerusalem and cities in that region of the world. But there where people living on what we call today the Americas who also needed to hear about Jesus Christ so after is resurrection he appeared to them and taught them the same message, the same doctrines and principles. Because they needed it just the same as everyone else. This is also the climax of the Book of Mormon. Everything before in the book leads and prepares for this time and everything after is looking back, and remembering this time. Show more Show less
