Hi I'm Kristin

I'm an Arizona girl, still surprised to be raising my family in Minnesota. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom of five wonderful children. I've been married to my sweet husband for 16 yrs. I love to draw, pencil mostly. I read mysteries, biographies, American history, great novels...I love to read. I have finally mastered fluffy scrambled eggs and dream of visiting the Galapagos Islands someday. When we are playing together, my kids think I am a queen, a master tower builder, a puzzler, a toy fixer, and a famous actress. During clean up time, I somehow transform from Fairy Godmother into "Totally Unfairy" :-)

Why I am a Mormon

Although born and raised into the Mormon faith, I found I needed to know for myself if what I had been taught was true. I have many friends with a variety of faiths and we would spend long hours discussing our beliefs. After spending a long time reading the Bible in its entirety and the Book of Mormon, thinking about their teachings and a lot of time in prayer, the Holy Spirit was unmistakable. I came to know my Savior personally. I found that my faith had become knowledge in His love and teachings. I know that I am a daughter of God. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored in its fulness. I know that in God, all things are possible. I know that God loves us today the same as He did in ancient times and that we have a Prophet to guide us today. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. I am a Mormon because it has brought me true happiness not ease in life, but true happiness. He loves me enough to allow me to experience hardships and strengthens me in my endeavors. I am truly blessed.

How I live my faith

I work with the youth of my congregation, ages 12-18. Specifically the girls. We have a wonderful program called "Personal Progress" which guides these young women to set and achieve goals in their lives in a variety of areas, from education, integrity, service and many others. They are incredible young ladies and I feel so blessed to get to work with them and teach them skills that will help them grow into productive, loving adults, with Christ as the center of their lives. I also try to serve my community whenever possible. One of our favorite family activities is pulling weeds at our local elementary school, which had to cut funding for landscaping due to a tight budget.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Kristin
I definitely believe the Bible is Holy Scripture. It contains the Word of God. Through the years, important parts of the Bible were changed or left out to suit the particular desires of rulers and some parts were literally lost in translation. So sadly, some of the truths have been lost from its pages. This does not change its importance in my life, I cherish the Bible and lessons taught. I love reading about my Savior. My absolute favorite scripture that has helped me in my life is Joshua 1:9, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Kristin
One thing we can do is to switch from just 'believing in Him' but 'believing Him'. He atoned for the sins of each of us, individually. He also understands each of our trial and can offer the perfect comfort if we let Him. Although, I don't understand it, I know that this miracle is true. We do this by studying His words and examples in the scriptures. Pondering on the meaning of what we read and study and then pray for understanding and increased faith. We really just need to try. Each step of faith is rewarded with more faith. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Kristin
Yes, I do. Truthfully, it just makes sense to me. In Moses' day, life was much simpler. I truly believe that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He loved and led His children through prophets in ancient times and also loves us. My heart and mind tell me we wouldn't be left to wonder or wander without His guidance. I am so thankful we have a prophet today to guide us and help us with the challenges we meet in our lives today. Show more Show less
