Hi I'm James

I live in Memphis, Tennessee and am married to an amazing art educator. Together we have three children, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have a terrific family and have been married for 20 years. My wife and I met while attending university in Provo, Utah. We have been blessed with three beautiful children and moved to Memphis in 2017. I am a university professor of higher education leadership and I also direct many of the leadership programs of my university.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon family and was taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ from my childhood. My great-grandfather was Norton Jacob 1804-1879, who was among the first 147 Mormon pioneers led by Brigham Young to enter the Salt Lake Valley on 24 July 1847. When I was 19 years old, I traveled to the Pacific Islands where I served a two-year mission for my Church in the countries of Fiji and Kiribati. I have since had opportunities to meet with members of the Church of Jesus Christ while traveling for my work in many international contexts. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and strive to pattern my life after His. Reading from the scriptures and daily prayer provide me with much-needed strength as a husband, father, and friend to others.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving with the amazing youth in our local church. I enjoy meeting new people and providing service in my community and in our church. Where opportunities provide, I also enjoy sharing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ with my friends and colleagues.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

We believe the Bible is the word of God. The Bible testifies that Jesus Christ lived and contains written testimonies of many prophets and others who lived in the region immediately around Israel. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be Holy Scripture, which stands as another testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon provides written testimonies of Jesus Christ from prophets who lived primarily on the American continents.  Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

I frequently travel abroad and am often asked the question, "Are Mormons Christians?" Each time I respond with an enthusiastic "Yes!" We believe in Jesus Christ and know that He is our Savior. He is the head of our Church and the center of my faith. I am so thankful for the knowledge I have that Jesus Christ lives today and I strive to live my life following His example as a true Christian. Show more Show less
