Hi I'm Tyler

I grew up in Utah, California, and Georgia. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of four children and continuing to go to college at a snails pace because my career started out in a field that required licenses, not degrees. With that career not working out my licenses have all expired and it appears I have no education beyond high school. So here I am working full time, taking care of my family, trying to fit school in to a very busy life, and actually loving most of it.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in a family that was always very active in the Mormon faith it was natural for me to believe what I was taught by my parents. But when I was 15 years old I took a serious look at the scriptures and prophets and I told God in my prayers that I wanted to know for myself if what I had been taught my whole life was true. I know God answers prayers because he answered mine (not immediately). Since that time I have had countless experiences to confirm my belief in the scriptures, a prophet who lives today, and that I am important to God.

How I live my faith

I live in a very family focused and God loving community; they actually say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at my children's elementary school which I think is a very good thing. I grew up eating dinner as a family every night, along with family scripture study and family prayer. I feel blessed my wife and I are able to continue these traditions with our own family; we do feel we are being blessed for placing such a heavy focus on our family. Two examples is my 10 year old son still gives me a kiss on the cheek before he goes to bed each night and my kids love when I tell them bed time stories. We have a very noisy family but a very happy family between the many ups and downs and struggles of rasing children. Though I have struggled a lot with financially supporting my family my wife has been able to stay home with our children since our first child was born 10 years ago. The Bible teaches we will be blessed for paying tithing, our family is proof of that.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Last year while reading a Church magazine containing talks given by Church leaders I noticed a lot of scripture references and decided to add up how many references were made to the Bible vs. the Book of Mormon. I counted 178 Bible references verses and 136 Book of Mormon references. Lately I have been studying the Book of Isaiah in the Bible and have been overwhelmed with the powerful testimony Isaiah had concerning Jesus Christ who would come about 700 years after him. The central message of Isaiah is look to Christ and live. The Bible is indeed the word of God and has always been an active part in my personal scritpure study. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

The law of chastity in a nutshell is God cherishes purity and knows we will not have real joy in life if we are casual with sex in both our thoughts and actions. In this sex driven world it means no sex before marriage and complete faithfullness to your spouse during marriage. The simplest way I have been able to teach my young children is the swimsuit rule. You don't touch or look at anyone where they wear a swimsuit and never let anyone touch or look at you where you wear your swimsuit. Show more Show less
