Hi I'm Muriel

I'm a Biologist, a Runner, and a Lover of Cultural Diversity. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

If there is one thing that I love, it is that I love people. I have travelled all over the world, and love learning about and visiting new cultures. I love getting to know people, I love observing people, and I love trying to understand people. I want to understand and see the world through the eyes of how other's see it. Feel what they feel, taste what they taste, see what they see... essentially, experience what they experience. I've learned that you can learn a great deal about how to treat others, by getting to know them better, and trying to understand how they understand the world. From my travels and my cultural experiences, I've gained a greater love for individual's differences, and it is easy for me to see the beauty of differences in others, and love them for it. The other thing in my life that I am passionate about, is Biology. I am very much a scientist, and I study Biology in school. I love the diversity of Biology. I love how there are always things to discover, and I feel that discovering God's creations is discovering just how much He loves each of us individually. There is beauty in diversity, and I am a lover of learning about all of it. Lastly, I am a runner. I love to run, and I love to run races because time and time again the message I learn is clear: You are capable of anything. I ran my first Marathon recently, and hope to influence others that they too can do hard things with their lives; they can overcome any challenge.

Why I am a Mormon

One of the biggest lesson that I've learned in my life (through watching people, through talking to people, and through my experiences with people) it is that every single person on this planet, has a hard life. Nobody gets through this life easy. Every single person has difficulties.. it doesn't matter who you are, what your socio-economic status is, or how long you've lived... if you are human, you experience hard times. The reason why I am a Mormon, is because I have come to know for myself that the Gospel of Jesus Christ remedies those hard times. It remedies the suffering moments in our lives.. it answers peace with death of a loved one, it pulls people out of financial insecurity, it is the light of hope we need to continue forward when all other lights go out. I am a Mormon because living the gospel teaches me that I can always be better. When I mess up, or when I suffer because of poor decisions of others who have affected my life, I know that it will help me to one day (sooner or later.. but it is a SURE promise) feel joy again. Not just contentment, not just mediocre happiness.. but pure Joy. Another reason why I am a Mormon is because it teaches me everyday about the power of love. Not just romantic love, but brotherly love (sometimes referred to by Mormons as 'Charity'). I know that whatever hard trial we are having in our lives, or whatever difficulty or fear we may be facing.. when we forget ourselves and concentrate on loving those around us (especially those who we have difficulties with, and even those who may not love us back) our hearts can be softened and we will live happier lives. It is not always easy, but the rewards of loving others outside of yourself far exceed any other happiness that the world would tell us would make us feel better. Love is the most powerful thing in the universe, for God is Love. (1 John Chapter 4)

How I live my faith

In the Mormon church, I am a teacher for the 'Relief Society.' Relief Society is an organization that is part of the church, which is specifically for it's female members. The purpose of Relief Society is to strengthen it's women members (who we refer to as sisters) in their faith. I absolutely love teaching the women of the church. It has been my most favorite responsibility. I love it because it is all about building the sisters, and bringing them closer to God. I will prepare my lesson a few days before Sunday lessons, so that I have time to think about the message that will be taught. During the lesson I think the most essential way to get the sisters involved is to ask them questions. Because women love to talk, when you give them an opportunity to share how the gospel has blessed their own lives, we can all learn from each other. We can challenge each other to set goals, and then follow up on those goals. Other ways I live my faith is by reading my scriptures everyday. I know that when I read them every single day, I feel more confident in who I am, and am more grateful for the opportunities I have been given and have received in my life. Another way I live my life is that when I learn something new about the gospel, I will post about it in my blog: http://murielcereal.blogspot.com/ You should read it sometime!
