Hi I'm Michael

I'm 25 years old, a recent college grad, I love playing sports, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five children in my family and I love playing sports, especially soccer. I'm a returned missionary from Mexico City. I enjoy being around friends and making people laugh. I just recently graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) and am working full time. I've been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life and it has directed me in my life to where I am today, and I'm so grateful for that.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up attending church every Sunday. I was baptized at age eight. I went through the youth and seminary programs. I served a full time mission for the Church. I am in no way perfect, but I have never questioned the teachings or the truthfulness of this church. I have experienced and continue to experience the happiness I receive by following Christ's teachings. Our Heavenly Father wants us to be happy and have a successful life. "Success" means something different to each person, but I know that as long as we have the desire to be good and try our best, we can all reach the level of success and happiness that we all want deep down. I have been extremely blessed in my life and I attribute all of it to being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Life is challenging. If it weren't, it wouldn't be worth it. With many things commanding my attention, like work, friends, family, church callings, and "me time", it's hard to give sufficient attention to each one of those aspects of life. I try to always be an example to those around me. I try to apply good principles in my life and I hope that I can portray those good attributes to other people I see and talk to each day. I try to help and support my roommates and others who I know. Christ is the ultimate example of true charity. I look to Him as my example so that I can be an example to others.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a teaching that Mormon's are taught to follow. In it's simplest form, it states that we shouldn't eat, drink, or consume anything that can cause harm to our bodies, or that could create a dependency or addiction in our lives. The Word of Wisdom specifically states that we shouldn't consume certain products; Alcohol, Tobacco, Coffee, Tea, or illegal drugs. These are specific things we shouldn't use, but along with these things, we should stay away from anything that can be harmful. Anything in excess could potentially be harmful, such as red meat or sugar and fat. That doesn't mean that we can't eat red meat or sugar and fat, it simply means that moderation in all things is a good rule of thumb. I don't follow the Word of Wisdom simply because of the health benefits (although the health benefits are really great). I follow it because my Savior asked me to follow it. Show more Show less
