Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Oregon. I'm an officer in the US Army. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an infantry officer in the US Army. I have deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. I am married and have two kids. I enjoy the outdoors and expecially enjoy backpacking and canoeing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I was raised a Mormon. When I was a young man I knew that it was important for me to learn for myself if what my parents had been teaching me was true. I decided to read the book of Mormon from cover to cover one summer. I read a verse toward the end of the Book of Mormon that touched me (Mormon 8:12). It was written by a prophet who was the last of his people. He said that if it were possible he would tell us all the answers, but that if we would believe what was in the Book of Mormon we would know of even greater things than what was written in it. I decided this was a challenge. I determined to live the teachings of the Book of Mormon to the best of my ability and see if I learned even greater things. I did. I have an increased understanding of the love our Heavenly Father and Jesus have for us. I know why I am here and what Heavenly Father wants me to do. There is another scripture in the Book of Mormon that has really meant a lot to me over the years. It ask us to think about the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God (Mosiah 2:41). I know this is true. As I keep the commandments and follow the teachings of Christ I am happy.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by doing what is right and living the Golden Rule. For my responsilities in the Church I have several families that I am assigned to visit monthly and ensure their spiritual and physical needs are met. As I visit with them it always brings happiness and peace into my life. Even though I am assgined to visit them they always strengthen me.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I think the Church is growing rapidly because people want to be associated with something that is absolute. The Church today is led by a prophet similar to Moses or Abraham. The Prophet provides clarity and undersanding when we are faced with otherwise complex social issues. Show more Show less
