About Me

Aspiring algae fuel scientist, physical fitness enthusiast, world traveler, defender of the U.S Constitution.

Why I am a Mormon

Jesus Christ is the reason I am a Mormon. He has the teachings and power to guide me and change me into a great and noble person. I know that this is His church and that He guides it and inspires people through it.

How I live my faith

service projects planned by my Ward is a way I live my faith. I also have a food storage plan. I try and help others overcome their weaknesses and addictions if they want my help. I answer questions about my faith and continue to be a missionary to those I come in contact with. I am a teacher in my Ward and teach men my age about Jesus Christ.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Brian
Tough experience has shown us that self-reliance and emergency preparedness are vital to maintaining some form of stability in our lives, especially when the unexpected happens. We always teach that you cant help others unless you are in a position to help. Putting yourself in a stable and prepared position makes you an asset to yourself and community and nation and can give you some peace of mind as you learn of all the things that can and do go wrong. we teach financial, emotional, spiritual, physical self reliance so that we can be a strength to others and be in a position to help them. Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Brian
I like the tough questions. Contrary to opinions even in the church, polygamy was not because there were more women than men. If church members were at all honest in the census of the late 19th century, there were more men than women in Utah, which was predominately mormon and where most of the polygamists resided. Polygamy was revealed to Joseph Smith in the course of his communications with the Lord as the church was being restored. We knew from the Bible that polygamy had been practiced by Abraham and Moses and David and Solomon, but it was only instituted in the Church because the Lord commanded Joseph Smith to put it into practice. Joseph Smith was the first polygamist. Brigham Young and others continued the practice, and it eventually was stopped in 1890 by Wilford Woodruff, the President of the church at that time. He explained that it was a commandment of the Lord to stop it. Those who practice it now are not affiliated with the Mormon church, which sometimes the press doesnt get strait. Polygamy isnt an easy thing to live, we know of the problems Abraham had with jeleousy among his wives. It was lived because the Lord wanted us to live it at that time. Many people believed that it made them less selfish. If the goal of polygamy was just sexual indulgence, there are easier ways to do that than to build an extra home and financially support an extra family. This practice was about obedience to God and a testimony that God spoke to Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
