Hi I'm Hap

I'm a 5th Generation Mormon. Former White House Staff Assistant to the President.

About Me

A 5th generation Mormon: my great, great, grandfather David Clough (who change spelling to Cluff after joining the LDS Church) became converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as proclaimed by Latter-day Saints in 1830 (1st year of Church) when he encountered Martin Harris (who financed 1st printing of Book of Mormon) while crossing a river on a ferry in upstate New York. As soon as he was able he and his brother, Benjamin, gathered their families and joined with the Saints. He was baptized by Joseph Smith's brother Hyrum; placing him among the first 1000 members of the LDS Church. I'm a former Bishop (volunteer pastor) of the Norfolk 2nd Ward (a congregation of 500 members). My career was as a CIO (Chief Information Officer) at City of Fresno, CA and City of Norfolk, VA; currently working as Senior Advisor for Tremendum Pictures producing quality family friendly films. My wife Vicki and I have 5 grown children and 10 grand children.

Why I am a Mormon

Truth lives here. It is my firm belief that each of us can know the truth of all things. I believe in a God who when asked will answer. This principle of ongoing and continual "revelation" is unique to the Mormon faith. We ask through Jesus Christ, God speaks, and the Holy Ghost (a unique and separate personage of spirit) affirms.

How I live my faith

As a Bishop it was my privilege to get to know the needs of all the members of our congregation. I struggled with them to meet their daily needs and grow their spirits.

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Hap
Temples are institutes of learning and performing the work for our ancestors. While Churches are for worshiping and caring for the immediate needs of members. For this reason Temples are not used on the Sabbath rather as Temples in the Old and New Testament times for the daily work of learning. Churches today are for worshiping, like the Synagogues where in ancient times. Show more Show less
