Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a student, a music lover and a sports fanatic. I'm a brother, son, an uncle, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 21 year old from Silver Spring MD, the northern D.C. metropolitan area. I am a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. Currently I study music, spanish, and latin-american studies. I haver grown up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have been blessed with having the gospel in my life. I love music, sports, and being with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always grown up with the knowledge of being a son of our Heavenly Father. Since I was young my parents taught me the importance of good values and following the saviors example. As a teenager in High School, there were many opportunities to make decisions. I was one of very few members of the LDS faith in my high school and I found that there were many times when people would ask me what I believe, what I don't do, etc. At first I was kind of defensive and felt that since I was the "different" one that I had to explain why i did different things. But then as I saw my friends and people I knew start making poorer personal decisions and the negative effects that they brought on the lives of those people, i was very grateful for the principles of the gospel that I had been taught to follow. The gospel of Jesus Christ and the instruction/council of my church leader and parents helped me make good decisions that have brought me peace and happiness in my life. By following the commandments of our Savior I have had health and strength to excel in sports and have had help and knowledge to do well in school and make steps towards a happy and successful family life. At first I saw the gospel of Jesus Christ as simply a list of do's and don'ts. Now I know that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is much more than that; it is a way of life that when lived brings all the blessings that the Lord has for us into ones life. I know that life still has its difficulties and not everything is perfect, but with an eternal perspective of things and the comfort and guidance that comes with the companionship of the Holy Ghost I have a peace and an assurance that come what may, all will be alright. The Savior brings that reassuring peace to all.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be an active example of a true follower of Jesus Christ. I served as a full-time representative of the Church and of Jesus Christ, in Chile, from June 2008-June 2010 and there learned the importance of sharing the gospel with all those willing to listen. I had the opportunity to testify of Jesus Christ and his resurrection on a daily blessing and saw how the gospel of Jesus Christ applies in everyone's lives. Currently I teach missionaries in the Missionary Training Center, where they go to prepare for full-time service wherever they have been called to serve, and strive to help them be better prepared to help others understand and live the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I live my faith by talking with friends about my beliefs and inviting them to learn more about them and see the fruits of the gospel in their own lives. I feel great responsibility to work towards the commandment given to each of us by the Savior himself. "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven in perfect." Matt. 548 Although I am far from perfect, I know that I can become better each day in Christ. I attend regularly to church meetings, strive to serve others and try my best to be an example to the believers of obedience to the commandments of our Lord and Savior.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

This is a question that should really be the focus of our life on this earth. Jesus Christ, in his prayer to his father in John 17 said that this is how we gain eternal life. "And this is life eternal, that they may know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." I try to come to know my Father in Heaven better each day. The most direct and powerful way to come to know Him is through sincere daily prayer. The Lord always tells us that if we ask, we will receive and so we can have faith that when we pray our Father in Heaven he will hear and answer us. As we receive answers from the our Father in Heaven to daily questions we will come closer to Him and form a personal relationship with him. The scriptures are the other rich fountain of information and teaching about our Father in Heaven. The scriptures contain the teachings of the prophets of God and Jesus Christ himself who had personal interaction with our Heavenly Father. Father in Heaven has revealed much about himself in the scriptures so that we can come to know him better and have faith in Him. Finally if we want to know our Father in Heaven better we must live his commandments. When we follow His commandments we will receive his promised blessing and know him better. Through this we can come to know Father in Heaven better which will lead us to eternal life. Show more Show less
