Hi I'm Katy

I'm a harpist. I'm a seamstress. I bake. I'm a mother to 5 girls. I'm a mormon

About Me

I have 5 girls. Yes, five. I thought each one of them was going to be a boy. Boy was I wrong. Don't feel sorry for my husband because they adore him, and of course the adoration is mutual. I care for them at home and love it. I love to be the maker of my home, where it can be a refuge from what the world is offering. I love to sew, creating something with dimension out of a flat, fluid medium. It feeds my soul to create.

Why I am a Mormon

We recently went to NYC for a week to celebrate our anniversary. We saw broadways, ate the most delectable food, and spent money on "things". New York is one of the fastest paced cities in the world. As we were walking down Madison, my thoughts drifted to my kids at home with a babysitter and I smiled. I smiled because I know that that is where true happiness resides--in a family. I am a Mormon because I believe in being together as a family for the eternities, obtaining that immortal life through my Savior who atoned for all my mistakes and sins. I believe that peace and joy can only come through that knowledge.

How I live my faith

I'm the Young Women's president (ages 12-18) and adore the girls I teach. It helps me to better understand this age group and prepare for when my own girls are teenagers.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Katy
We talk frequently about these subjects when teaching the teenage girls. How a young woman dresses directly correlates to keeping her chastity. When one dresses showing respect for her body and self, those around her will, in turn, respect her for who she is and what she stands for. Parents, especially mothers, teach by example. If I see a mother dressed with low cut blouses and mini skirts, you can bet her daughter dresses just like her. We talk openly about modest bathing suits and modest clothing with our children and help them to dress appropriately, but still with a sense of style so they are confident. Being an example also holds true to language and behavior. Why would a child stop swearing if they hear it constantly coming from those who are supposed to be teaching them proper behavior?
