Hi I'm John

8th of 9 children, Expecting my 3rd child, Work on the Space Program, Glad to be here.

About Me

Father of 2, soon to be 3. I work on the Space Station Program down in Houston. I'm graduating in May 2011 with a Masters in Astronautical Engineering, and I hope to do something really cool with it. I love Texas, and most of my extended family is here.

Why I am a Mormon

Because Jesus can save me if I let him, and I want to be saved, so I follow his gospel, and that is what the Mormon church teaches.

How I live my faith

Do my best to keep the commandments, most importantly, Love of God and others. I try not to be as big a jerk as I am inclined to be, basically.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No, Mormon's worship Jesus, His Father, and the Holy Ghost. Joseph Smith was an interchangable tool in God's hand that the Lord Chose to do some serious work with. I honor and respect and am grateful for what Joseph Smith did, but salvation comes through Jesus alone! Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

I accept Jesus as i learn about him in the Bible as my only Savior and the Son of God and the creator of the heavens and the Earth. I believe that he lives today because he was ressurected after dying for my sins and he will return to rule the earth as king. Different people define the word "Christian" in different ways, and it's really not that important to me if someone else doesn't considers me a Christian because I don't meet the specific combination of beliefs and doctrines that they may say are required to be a "Christian." What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

We go to church to take the sacrament and have sunday school and go to the youth organization. And to have parties. We go to the temple to receive training on some of the more exquisite points of God's gospel and his plan for us here on earth. We also participate in ordinances like the ones that god established a really long time ago and restored in our times. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

The purpose of existence is to be happy. We are happy when we follow Gods plan, which is to say when we follow his commandments. Ultimate happiness is living in God's presence with our loved ones. We experience happiness when we live right. When we live poorly, we can not be happy. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

A bunch of people wrote the book of Mormon, just like a bunch of people wrote the Bible. Specifically, parts of the book of mormon were written by prophets who left Jerusalem and came to the American continents. As with the Bible, Jesus Christ is the source of the philosophy and messages of the Book of Mormon. Joseph smith translated the book of mormon, sometime using the Urim and Thummin (Google it) and by the power of God from the metal plates that the ancient prophets wrote the scriptures in. Mormon was the old prophet who abridged the book a thousand years before Joseph Smith translated the book. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and I know that hit has come to us throughout this divine path that I have just described. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

I give 10% of my income to the church so that they can keep the lights on, build buildings, feed poor people, and otherwise do the things that God wants to have done that cost money. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

No. Then we would not be a church anymore. No churches or non profit organizations can endorse political parties. Also, because the church is everywhere in the world, it wouldn't work to endorse a political party in the US where most of the members aren't even in the US. Also, I feel like most parties have much to be lacking anyway. God's political party is not around, or at least I haven't heard of it. Show more Show less

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

Abortion, in general, is a bad thing. Sometimes when the mothers health is at risk or if the mother is the victim of sexual crime, then it may be the best thing to do. Otherwise, adoption or raising the kid is the way to go. We existed spiritually before we were born. God wants us to come to earth to learn and grow. Show more Show less
