Hi I'm Gordon

At 23 years old, in my third year studies as a family doctor I was baptized. That has given me 46 years of joy as a Mormon.

About Me

As a youth. my favourite pastime was climbing trees; the taller, the better. At 12 years old, my parents moved from a rural to an urban location in N.S. and enrolled me and my younger brother in YMCA activity. Swimming became my favourite sport and for 11 years improvement allowed me to compete at national and international competitions. Tom Swift Space Cadet books, Mecanno sets and family camping trips were all enjoyed. Without any sisters, I learned a lot about kitchen duties, house cleaning, and mending cloths. I attended university receiving a B.Sc. degree and then an M.D. degree. Marriage in Idaho Falls Temple was followed by graduation and then family practice in a small N.S. fishing community. Our family grew to seven children who added four spouses and now 23 grandchildren. Hobbies include chorale singing, biking, tennis, science fiction and fantasy books, computer games, board and card games, photography, writing, and family history.

Why I am a Mormon

When I first learned about this church, I was attending a Gold and Green Ball with a high school friend who had invited me to come with her. We enjoyed a few dances and I remember stopping in the middle of a dance and stating that before I went to far in my questions to her I wanted to know if this church believed in Jesus Christ. She laughed and said the name of this church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and of course we believed in Jesus Christ. With that assurance I decided to keep asking questions as long as the answers continued to make sense to me and my understanding of religion. Here I am 53 years later still asking new questions and still happy with the various answers those questions bring. Baptism was delayed by parent opposition for seven years. Then in 1968 that opposition was no longer a factor and I was baptized. Temple marriage followed a year later and I have been a teacher as well as a student all my years in the church. I greatly enjoy being a member of a church that encourages its members to ask questions and seek learning about everything.

How I live my faith

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus finished with Matthew 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect." I do not believe that Jesus would have said that if it was not possible to do! I have accepted that instruction as my goal in life realizing that it will only be possible if I learn to be obedient to all the wisdom and guidance I receive from our church prophets and my priesthood leaders.
