Hi I'm Kevin

I'm a Mormon. I was born and grew up in Arizona, and moved all over the country.

About Me

I'm a dad, but my children have grown and left the house. My youngest son just got married. I'm interested in art, specifically wood carving. I've worked with wood for nearly 50 years. I'd like to expand into drawing and oil painting. I'm still working in the defense business and serve as a quality specialist looking for process improvements.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was first married, I had an instant family. After the first few weeks of marriage, I recognized that I needed help learning how to raise my children. I found that help and much more after I was baptized at the age of 26. Before I was baptized, I read the Book of Mormon all the way through and received a witness from the Holy Ghost that it was true. I've had many experiences and received many witnesses both spiritually and physically that my decision to enter in the waters of baptism was correct. The power of prayer, faith and the priesthood is real. I'm grateful for Joseph Smith and my ancestors for the legacy and blessings I've personally received. I'm grateful we have a living prophet on the earth today, Thomas S. Monson. I sustain him and the other general authorities as prophets, seers and revelators. I'm grateful for their diligence in my behalf and service to the world. We live in troubled times and I'm grateful for their council.

How I live my faith

I serve as the mission leader in my small local area. Our concern lately is to reach out to those members who are discouraged and may not be meeting regularly with us in addition to assisting the full time missionaries organize their teaching appointments. I do my best to get to know the members of our church so that I can match the interests of new members and people who are soon to become new members. Sometimes finding friends and getting used to the church culture is difficult for new and returning members. My role is to help smooth the transition of new and returning members so that they can feel comfortable in new associations as quickly as possible. Staying close to the church by having friends and support as well as a job in the church is very important in cultivating faith and the spiritual blessings that come through membership.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Knowing that Mormonism is true doesn't come from facts, but the fact is that it is true. What is truth? Since we are human, truth is clouded by our life experiences. As humans, truth is frequently what we can see physically. Sometimes our eyes can deceive us.  You have to find out yourself if it is true by the feelings you have in your heart. The true witness of Mormonism comes from experiencing the Holy Ghost open our hearts so that we have eyes that see, ears that hear, and hearts that feel the impressions only your spirit can have. Experiencing the influence of the Holy Ghost can come through prayer and reading the Book of Mormon as well as recognizing the good fruits coming from members of the church. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a statement of belief or knowledge about a one or more of the parts of church doctrine. It is similar to the type of statement a person would make if they were testifying to some fact or interpretation of a fact in a court of law. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

I don't worship Joseph Smith. I remember him as a man who had great influence in my life. I have found through family history research that many of my ancestors had personal contact with him and consider him to be a great prophet. His relationship with God our Hevenly Father, his Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost to be one of a personal witness and a deeply personal one. I feel grateful for the witness that Joseph Smith provides for us in his testimony and revelations that come through the Doctrine and Covenants as well as the Pearl of Great Price. Show more Show less
