Hi I'm Lia

I'm a Mother. I'm a Classicist. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mother of three aspiring princesses. I love playing the piano and guitar, hiking in the New England hills, and learning German. I love Cicero and Plato, Dickens and Eliot and am mastering the art of breadmaking.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both converts to the church, so I grew up in it. Since all of my relatives didn't have the gospel in their lives, it was really easy to see the difference that living the teachings of the church could make. I always loved reading the Book of Mormon and other scriptures, and knew that I had a Heavenly Father who heard and answered my prayers from the time I was seven years old. The period in my life that I pinpoint as the time I gained a testimony of this church, though, is in college when I was working on the Joseph Smith Papers. My first assignment was to put in chronological order a huge database of contemporary statements about Joseph Smith--true and false, positive and negative, friends and foes. Many of the things I read were the crudest things I had ever encountered in my 19-year-old-little-Mormon-girl life. At first I brushed these things off as obviously being false, but going through these things day after day, week after week during this assignment--and during a very busy semester not giving equal time to the Lord--I started to get confused. It soon became apparent to me that I needed a testimony of Joseph Smith as a prophet and I started praying earnestly and reading the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants. I point to that period of my life as when I came to know for certain that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really is Christ's church, that it was restored through a prophet of God, Joseph Smith, and that it is led by a prophet today.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being a wife and mother. What a great career for becoming more Christ-like!
