Hi I'm Katie

I am a learner. I run. I write. I am grateful for family and friends. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have great parents who love me and my two brothers. My brothers inspire me to be better. I love to discover and learn about anything and anyone and any place. My love for discovery motivates me to understand people and how they learn, especially children. I'll be getting a degree in Elementary Education soon, and I look forward to being in the classroom. I run a lot, and I am training for races of increasing lengths throughout this year. I really enjoy being active and having a healthy body. I write a lot--mostly journals, but I recently started a blog. It's a different kind of writing, but I like sharing my life and what I learn and love with others. I am so grateful for people who share their life with me. I feel fortunate to have awesome friends to spend time with and enjoy new and old activities with.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe the Book of Mormon is divine scripture written by prophets called of God. The more I learn about anything, the more I am drawn to the teachings of the Savior, especially as they are written in the Book of Mormon. I am assured of the goodness in others, myself, and the Savior as I read it's pages and apply what is written. I become a better person in every category of my life as I do that. I believe that is inspiration. I believe God is my Heavenly Father, and He communicates with me and listens to me. I believe He knows me, my struggles, my frailties, my goals, strengths, love, and hopes. I feel that He directs me towards the things that will bring me deep, lasting happiness. I feel directed to the Mormon faith, and I know that my life is rich and joyful because of my membership in this church and my choice to live and learn the principles it teaches.

How I live my faith

I view my life as a time of great learning, which makes time incredibly valuable to me. Exploring learning and growth teaches me a lot about love and the Savior. It motivates me to be like Him and to trust Him and His teachings. I learn through experience, scripture study, and prayer. I try to be like Him by keeping the commandments. I learn much by applying the teachings of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I especially appreciate the truths contained in the principles of faith, repentance, making and keeping covenants, receiving the Holy Ghost, and continuing with endurance. Applying these principles deepens my belief in the goodness of individuals and the reality of divinity in my life. I become a more trusting person; a better daughter, sister, friend, and employee; I become more patient, more diligent, more understanding. I am a better learner the more I trust the commandments of God. I am pulled to service because of my faith as well. I believe service in the home is the first and most important priority. I volunteer as well in the community, and my brother and I currently tutor in an after school program together. I volunteer through church assignments as well. A good friend and I are currently responsible for the toddlers in our congregation while their parents participate in Sunday School classes and auxiliary programs. About a year and a half ago I returned from an 18 month mission teaching gospel to Hispanics in Chicago. Serving is a remarkable privilege.
