Hi I'm Phillip

I'm a Teacher, I'm a Navy Veteran, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father. My wife and I have four wonderful children. Currently I'm an elementary school teacher. Prior to being a teacher, I served 20 years in the United States Navy where I had the opportunity to travel all over the world and experience many different cultures. Recently I completed a Master's of Education degree which I use daily in trying to be the best teacher I can be. In my spare time I enjoy reading and photography.

Why I am a Mormon

Put simply, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know that it is true. When I began investigating the Church I met with the missionaries. During one of these meetings, a missionary asked me to read a few verses out of a section of the Book of Mormon that I had not yet gotten to in my reading. As I read the scriptures I recognized the words that were written. I have a very, very good memory for the written word. However, despite my recognizing the words, I knew that I had never read in that part of the Book of Mormon. As the Spirit showed me those words, I knew that I had learned of the plan of happiness before. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that what I was reading was true. I know that God lives and that his Son Jesus is the Christ, and that through the power of God the prophet Joseph Smith was able to translate the Book of Mormon. I know that the power and authority to act in God's name - the Priesthood - was restored to the earth. I bear witness that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we are able to overcome our weakness and receive forgiveness for our sins.

How I live my faith

I serve in the lay leadership of my congregation. I'm a counselor in the bishopric. In this capacity I have stewardship over various auxiliary organizations within our local church unit (a ward in mormon-speak). I assist in overseeing the children's organization called "Primary". I also am responsible for assisting the women who supervise the pre-teen and teenage girls within the ward. I also assist in teaching a class each Sunday to the 12 and 13-year-old young men in our ward.
