Hi I'm Jacob

I'm a grad student working on a PhD in Computer Science. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Medford, Oregon and grew up in Utah. During my undergrad in Idaho I met my wife. After graduating in April 2008, I decided to continue my education. I will complete my PhD in Computer Science in 2012. When I'm not spending my time in front of a computer I like to play with my 2 kids, read a book, rock climb, camp, hike or wood work. Although computers are great tools they don't provide the hands on craftsmanship that I enjoy when I wood work. I have a great love for wood working and hope to one day have a wood shop where I can build my own furniture. The first thing I want to build is matching beds for my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a scientist at heart and to me everything should make sense. For many people this life doesn't make sense. Whenever something doesn't make sense, it isn't because it is impossible to understand, but instead we lack the needed knowledge to understand it. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides the knowledge needed to truly understand life. Without the truth taught by the gospel of Jesus Christ, I would be lost and unhappy. I am a Mormon because I need to understand life.

How I live my faith

Jesus once taught: "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." I strive to treat everyone as I would treat the Savior himself. I try to serve and lift others where ever I go and with who ever I interact. I want others to feel better about life and who they are.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

What do parents want for their children? My guess is that all parents would say they want their children to be happy, successful, and one day have a family of their own. I believe our Heavenly Father wants the same thing for us. Children are prepared to live as adults by obeying their parents and learning to be like them. Likewise, this life is the time to prepare for a life like our Heavenly Father's. This preparation is done by obeying our Heavenly Father and learning to be like Him. Show more Show less
