Hi I'm Summer

Wife, Mother, Closet Diva...and a Mormon.

About Me

I am the mother of three boys. I have decided that it is my lot in life to be mother to the next "Army of Helaman" and I hope one day they say, "My mother knew it". I have a wonderful husband whom I am blessed to be married to for Time and all eternity. I earned my degree in Music Education with a concentration on Vocal Performance and enjoy teaching my small group of students and watching them do things they never thought they could! I miss the stage and someday I'll get back to it but for now I love being Mommy. There's no better job in the world! I try to be a jack of all trades. Sometimes I surprise myself. Many times I wish I were more talented like my mother. But if there is one thing I know how to do it is to make awesome cookies (if i do say so myself).

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon but that doesn't mean that there wasn't a time in my life when I was converted. It is not a religion where you can just say that is what you are and not live a life different from those around you. It is something you have to be committed to. As anyone growing up you have times you are closer to the spirit and times you are not. But I never doubted for a moment it was true. It was always a deep conviction in me. It was when I met the man that would be my Eternal Companion that I truly knew what it meant to have the blessings of the gospel. I knew I loved him too much to have anything less than an eternal marriage with him. With the birth of each child, as I hold them in my arms, I am more and more grateful I never have to let them go. Not for good anyway. :-)

How I live my faith

I am happy to be able to work with the Youth in our ward. I am the President of the Young Womens organization in my ward and thankfully I am blessed to work with people a whole lot more talented and awesome than I am so that we can do great things for our youth. However, the Youth do great things for me. I love seeing them every Sunday and Wednesday night. They are such beautiful girls and have so much to offer everyone around them. I love sending my kids to their Primary classes where they can learn things on a level suited to them and associate with other children who believe as they do. It's a comfort to know that they have leaders that love them and have other great influences in a world that can often be overwhelming with bad influences.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are AMAZING! You will never find such a concentrated group of amazing, talented, capable and strong women as you will in the church. (Just my humble opinion.) And you will find the same amazing concentration of men who will actually say that they would be nothing without their fine wives. (We feel the same way about our husbands you understand.) We are here to balance each other out and use our natural strengths and talents to compliment each other. Where I am weak, my husband is strong and vice versus. We embrace our womanhood and are not afraid to rise to the difficult tasks of raising children and nurturing them as we should. At the same time, if necessary you will find us in the work place & in organizations worthy of our attention outside the church. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

Going to church on Sunday is our way of being able to worship weekly and gather together with the other "saints" to strengthen and edify each other. We learn Gospel Principles and are able to discuss different doctrine to increase our personal knowledge and help each other to learn and grow. It is more relaxed atmosphere and a great opportunity to fellowship with each other just as any church would do. When we go to the Temple it is a sacred thing. It is a place where we can receive higher blessings and a place where we can partake of very serious and sacred ordinances. It requires a much higher level of commitment and devotion to be able to go to the temple. It is a place that we strive to be worthy to go so we can achieve the peace that comes with being in the LORD's house. Being prepared to go there enables you be closer to your Father in Heaven.
