Hi I'm Emily

I'm a sister. I'm a student. I'm a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying the Social Sciences. I love music, and hold a special place in my heart for musicals ;) I love all sorts of crafts and enjoy trying out new recipes :D I have a wonderful boyfriend that I have been dating for over three years. He's currently serving a mission in Guatemala. I love spending time with friends and family and love to immerse myself in literature and discussions about the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because there is no way I could ever even imagine denying the truth of the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and has a plan for each of us. I know that Christ came here to atone for my sins and that he loves me. I can testify of the power of the temple and the sacred ordinances that take place there. I know that the Priesthood is real and am thankful for the blessings I receive through the brethren around me that hold it. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that he translated the Book of Mormon. I know that the Book of Mormon truly is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that we have a modern prophet on the earth today and that he leads and guides the church as the Lord commands him. I am so very thankful for a modern day prophet and all the clarity his insight gives me in this increasingly chaotic and confusing world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing my best to live by the standards and try to share the joy and life perspective the gospel has provided me with those I come in contact with. I am continually striving to gain more knowledge and improve myself. I do my best to learn and do what the Lord would have me learn and do.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Emily
The fact that it's true! In addition, the gospel brings an immense amount of joy and peace to the lives of those who live it. Isn't that what everyone's looking for? Happiness? That's what this gospel provides, and so much more! Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Emily
There were several reasons for the Restoration of the Gospel. 1. The church that Christ established on the church no longer functioned on the earth. The Restoration reorganized Christ's church. 2. Priesthood authority was also no longer on the earth. When the apostles and righteous members of the church had all passed, that authority was taken from the earth. The Restoration allowed that power to be on the earth again. 3. The Book of Mormon being translated and published was very important. It is a second witness of Christ, and as such it testifies of Him and His teachings. In addition, the Book of Mormon allows a lot of varying interpretations in the Bible to become more clear. Because of all the different translations of the Bible, different people could interpret some verses multiple ways, the Book of Mormon allows us to clarify the true interpretations. (You can draw a million lines through one point, but only one line can be drawn between two points). 4. Joseph Smith's First Vision also taught us that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are two separate beings. There are many more things that came from the Restoration of the Gospel, these are just a few main points. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God and that this church is Christ's church restored to the earth. I am so grateful to have the fulness of the Gospel in my life. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

Emily
Relief Society is a wonderful women's organization. I am proud to be a part of it. Relief Society members are all the women in the church. On Sundays, after Sacrament and Sunday School, we meet together to learn from the scriptures and the prophets. As an organization our mission is to 'build faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and help those in need'. We do our best to serve those around us and fulfill the needs of our fellow sisters in the church as well as sisters and families that are not part of the church. I am very grateful for Relief Society and the sisterhood I am a part of. I'm also grateful for the opportunities I have to serve those around me through this organization. I know that no matter where I travel or live, there will always be a batch of loving sisters to welcome me. Show more Show less
