Hi I'm Jared

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just finished a master's degree in history, which I completed by going to school at night while working full time during the day. I love cooking and baking, especially grilling outside. I'm a huge music fan and I read whenever I get the chance.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in a Mormon home, I would have to say that I'm a Mormon because I know for myself that the teachings of the Church are true. At a young age I decided that I couldn't rely on my parents' word alone--that I needed my own witness. I prayed to God and asked him to help me know whether or not what I had learned was true. I know that He answered me that it is. Living according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ that I learned as a Mormon helps me to keep direction in my life. It has provided me with the tools I need to make decisions, both small and large. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me strength and peace as well as hope.

How I live my faith

I help to organize large-scale events for young single adults in my area--anywhere from 300 to 600 people attend the activities that my committee puts together. We do this to build camaraderie and also to invite others to be a part of our community of faith and friendship. I also teach Sunday school classes every other Sunday. All of my lessons from the last year have come from the Old Testament. It strengthens my faith to study and then teach the words of those ancient prophets--witnesses of Jesus Christ from before his birth.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The subtitle of the Book of Mormon is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." This explains its purpose well--it is a companion volume to the Old and New Testaments giving further witness of the work and gospel of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon was written by prophets who lived in the Americas during the time of the Old and New Testaments--from approximately 600 BC to AD 400. These prophets were called of God in the same way that Moses, Isaiah, or Peter, James, and John were called. The Book of Mormon prophets' main role was to testify of Christ and his teachings. The Book of Mormon includes an account of Jesus Christ's visit to some of these ancient American prophets and their people after his crucifixion and resurrection. He taught and blessed those people and imparted his love to them as well.  Show more Show less
