Hi I'm Marsha

I LOVE being a grandmother! I enjoy writing. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mother of seven children, and grandmother to fourteen and counting. I love my family! I was a high school teacher. I taught Spanish and Junior Engish. I love to write poetry and articles. I am an avid walker. I have just recently lost almost 40 pounds trying to lower my cholesterol!

Why I am a Mormon

My birth mother died from alchoholism. We suffered a lot when we were young because of her addiction. I have lost a younger sister because of cocaine, and I have another little sister living on the streets because she is also addicted to alcohol and drugs. I try to help my sister, but she does not want my help. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it gives me direction with a purpose. I know that I am a daughter of God. He wants me to be happy. He wants me back after I leave this world. I have seen the unhappiness and destruction that comes when we have no direction nor purpose in our lives--when we leave ourselves to be blown about as if we were tumbleweeds. We each have worth and divine potential as children of God. He has provided us with a plan of happiness giving us a way back to Him.

How I live my faith

I am an activity day leader for young girls age 8 to 11 years of age. We plan activities that help the girls to develop faith in the Savior, serve others, and help develop their talents. We call our girls our "little angels". I am also a visting teacher. I have a companion and we are watch over five of our sisters in our local ward. When we serve others, we feel we are actually serving the Savior. We strive to have His pure love for others. Sometimes I know that I am not the best that I can be, but I don't give up because I know He will help me to become more like He is step by step.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We do not worship Jospeh Smith. He is a latter-day Prophet who with the Lord's help restored the gospel of Jesus Christ here upon the earth. After the Savior was crucified and His apostles died or were killed--there was no prieshtood authority and man started adding false beliefs to His gospel. There was a falling away or apostasy. We love the Prophet Joseph Smith, but we do not worship him. We worship our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Savior. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

We are called Momons because of "The Book of Mormon". We believe that "The Book of Mormon" is another testament of the divine mission of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. If you have a copy of "The Book of Mormon", go to page 440 and read of His visit to this land. This is my favorite part of "The Book of Mormon". The official name of our Church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

We have a Word of Wisdom. It is an inspired code of health. We are blessed when we abide by its concepts. I am born of an alcoholic mother. Some of my siblings are now repeating that same cycle of addiction that tears families apart and often brings pain and death. I have never been tempted to take anything harmful into my body because I have seen what it can do to your life and the lives of those who love you. I am so thankful for the Word of Wisdom and for the blessings I now enjoy because I am not addicted to any thing. Show more Show less
