Hi I'm Fred Bloem

I am a husband, a father, a physician, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful wife, have three children, a son and two daughters. My interests are my family, playing the guitar and the piano, healthy food preparation, photography, and videography. My profession is in holistic medicine.

Why I am a Mormon

I learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1987 while visiting Salt Lake City. I enjoyed visiting the many church historical sites in Salt Lake City and other parts of Utah. However, initially I did not have any desire to become a member. During my stay I met many friendly members of the church who shared the Book of Mormon with me. After several months friends referred me to the full-time missionaries who taught me the basic gospel principles. Soon thereafter I started reading the Book of Mormon. As I read it I felt good and like everything that I was reading made sense. I recognized that this was the Holy Ghost testifying to me that the book was a true testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ. Within weeks I was baptized in a font in the Tabernacle in Temple Square. I am very grateful to a member of this church. It has not only blessed my own life, but also the lives of my family, especially my children. In today's world it is important to know where we came from, what we are to do while on this earth, and where we are going. I have found answers to these questions in the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the other scriptures that are available to us. I know that God speaks to us through the scriptures and through our living prophets.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to church every Sunday and by participating in the services and gospel lessons. I find strength in renewing my covenants with the Lord by partaking of the Sacrament during our Sunday meetings. I am a home teacher and find joy ministering to and teaching families in our congregation. I also serve as an Assistant Stake Executive Secretary, an Assistant Scoutmaster, and my congregation's social media specialist. I find joy in helping my son with his priesthood and scouting activities and responsibilities. Members of our congregation are blessed to live near the Washington DC Temple and its Visitors' Center. I go to the temple at least once month, but more often if I have extra time. The Temple is the House of the Lord and a sacred place where members of the church serve by performing special ordinances. I also go the Visitors' Center regularly. There are special exhibits and musical performances throughout the year. I encourage you to go there in December to enjoy the wonderful lights, Christmas displays, and musical performances.

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

Fred Bloem
Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer. We believe that Jesus atoned for our sins and that we can be forgiven if we repent of our sins and follow him. We believe that need to be baptized and that we need to receive other essential saving ordinances in order to be able to return to live with Heavenly Father. We believe that we must endure to the end in doing good works for our fellowmen and keeping the commandments. We believe that we can learn about the gospel in the Holy Bible and in the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ.  Show more Show less
