Hi I'm Mike

I'm a father, I'm a husband, I'm an attorney, and I'm a Mormon convert.

About Me

I am a 40's something. I live with my wife and little girl here in the Texas. My wife and I are both converts to the church. We joined under different circumstances and in different geographic locations well before we got married. I am attorney. My wife and I enjoy traveling, Latin dancing, and watching movies among other things.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon for one reason: it's true and I know it's true. I grew up with my atheist dad and Catholic mother. I had my doubts about religion and my father reinforced that when he talked to me about how there was no proof of a God. He taught me about all his bad experiences with religion. I had had my own bad experiences with people who I thought were religious as well. I was skeptical. I didn't feel there were any true answers in religion. They all teach different things. If there was God...what did he really expect from me. That changed when I came in contact with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I listened to the missionaries' message with an open mind. I asked pointed questions even though I thought those questions would offend. I got honest answers. The biggest reason I became a Latter-day was that I could take the information from the Church and analyse it, test it, ponder it and come to my own conclusions without someone telling me why it was true. I know for myself this is the only church on earth that has the authority to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that God speaks to us through his chosen prophets. I know he cares about me and loves me. I know he has a plan for me. Now that I am a member, I know what I have to do to get to where I want to go and I know what the destination is. Becoming a member has not removed challenges from my life, but I know where to find happiness now. When I follow the Gospel, I find happiness, faith, trust, love, understanding, patience and peace. I enjoy life now in a way I never did before because I know that God is there and I know where to go to receive his will for me. I know my family will be stronger because we have the Gospel in our lives. I encourage any of your reading this to invest a seed size amount of faith in investigating the Church. Ponder what you learn, live what you learn, ask God if it is NOT true and you will get an answer.

How I live my faith

Living the Gospel is like going to a gym. You have your good days and your not so good days. Days when you show up to work out and others when you let life get in the way. When I became a Mormon, I didn't instantaneously become perfect or anything close, and now that I have been a Mormon for more than 20 years, I still have a lot of work to become the person I want to be. But that's what its all about. Life is so much easier knowing that God exists and that there is a plan and a purpose to life. Change is hard and takes time, but the Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to be more patient, selfless, kind and happy. Now it is up to me to put the teachings of Jesus Christ to work. Here's a great thing to consider when looking for a church: “a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has the power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation.”
