Hi I'm Brooke

I grew up in Idaho and I love the out doors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an artist and athlete. I love to paint, draw, play tennis and volleyball. I went to school at the University of Pittsburgh where I studied studio art, mythology and literature. I love to read Sci-Fi, and Historical fiction

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up my mom went to church semi-regularly and took my sister and I. I mostly went because of my mom. In high school most of my friends weren’t members and not going to church wasn’t a big deal. It wasn’t until I went to college and I didn’t have as much family pressure that I really started to like church and go for myself. It just felt good. I started to go every week and slowly I gained the knowledge that this was the right place for me and this was the true church, that knowledge is my testimony, and it is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

In this church we are given callings, or jobs to do to help out in the church and in the community. I have really enjoyed my callings. Some of the best have been “activities committee member” where I got to organize, plan, and decorate for the big events. Events like Easter, Halloween, and Christmas parties. I also enjoyed being “stake athletic directors” this is where we would organize sports schedules. We would have basketball and volleyball season play and tournaments for the churches in our area. It is fun to get to know other teams and people from the different areas. Being willing to give up time and energy for the things the church thinks are important for the community are examples of how I live my faith.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Brooke
I have always found that the best way to get to know a person is to talk to them. So we can get to know God through prayer. Also reading about what someone has done or stories about him or her helps us feel closer to them. So reading scriptures is also helpful in forming that personal relationship with Heavenly Father. What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Brooke
The words of wisdom are inspired guidelines for the well being of our bodies. It states things that we should do, or not do to keep ourselves healthy. Things like eating moderate amounts of meat, and healthy foods. It also says not to consume alcohol, smoke, or do recreational drugs. A lot of the word of wisdom seems like common sense, but it wasn’t when it first came out. In our church we think our bodies are very special and they should be treated with respect. The word of wisdom helps with that. Show more Show less
